Replace Cluster Lense

Has anyone here replaced or know how to replace the instrument cluster lense? The previous owner must have dusted it with steel wool, it's all scratched and a replacement is under $30. Part #3 in the diagram

Don't know if there's any way to just pry it out and replace, but here's the 2009 FSM, click on the IP folder and scroll, if you do have to remove the cluster is sounds like a royal PITA. If you need a new year just click on Parent Directory and select year.

Next option would be to get a custom cut out of clear vinyl, and install it on top of the lense like a screen protector on phone. I use to work at the mall doing this sort of thing, the clear wet install film fills in the scratches and makes it look brand new.

what about using one of those headlight restorer kits? The ones where you use a drill and progressively lighter sand paper?

I have a feeling that even if you get the cluster out that the lens is prob glued somehow to the binnacle itself and would require some surgeon like precision to replace without Fing up your gauges.

The fact that they sell the replacement cover would seem like it would be something that could be R&R'd without too much trouble, but the million dollar question is how ????

I've taken apart my old Altima before, the cluster is not glued on. They are just clips holding it in.

I think it's just clips. However, try reaching out to botlfed98. He had a listing in the FS section for a modified gauge cluster. Probably knows how to remove it quickly and easily.

this sounds really complicated. I'll try a headlight restorer and see how it goes from there

Yeah I would try PlastX, it worked wonders on my last headlights and they were made of much harder plastic.

well i have done it to my old g35. there were water spots on the lens and it finally bugged me enough to remove it and polish it out. i just used normal clear coat polish and wax. you are gonna have to do it by hand (which is a pain). came out great. you prob wont have to sand it unless the scratches are really bad.

also couldnt hurt to just try to polish first cause i am sure you have some in your garage anyway. before you replace.
