Gear shift fix for free!!

Hey guys, I'm a newbee that already has a pointer that might save you some money! I just bought a 2009 G37 vert and I noticed the gear shift **** was pretty bad looking. I tried painting over the clear coat that was peeling and it came out terrible. So, as I was picking the paint off I came up with the idea of using a very fine steel wool to sand the metal down and the results were amazing! It actually has a brushed metal finish. The first picture is how it looked before (I had to use an online photo) and the after when I was done. (It is the actual ****) So see what you think...

Welcome to the site, nice first post
Did you put any clear coat over that? Looks like it did a nice job.

No, just buffed it with a very fine steel wool. I don't wear any rings on my right hand, so it should not scratch up with regular use and if it does I'll just hit it again lightly with the steel wool again! I almost bought a oem gear shift **** until I saw all the used ones had the same problem. My next project will be the peeling rubber on the steering wheel.
