Hey Canadians! Anyone install LEDs and rewire to use as DRLs?

I've been thinking of installing some LED's into the lower faux vents on the front of my coupe but want them to function as the DRL's (instead of the fog lights). Meaning that when I turn on the ignition and release the parking brake, the LED's would come on rather than the fogs (which would only function if turned on manually).
Has anyone successfully done this? I've found "How to…" write-ups for US vehicles, but not Canadian ones which come wired with DRLs for the fogs.

I'd love to find out why your DRL's are the fogs and mine are the headlights.

Difference in years maybe?

Yeah. 2012 sedan. The HID headlights, signals, markers and rear tails are on all the time.

Are you rear tails on too? or just the fogs?

just the fogs. nothing else. i've seen several others all the same.
hmmm. is yours a US car that you (or someone) imported into canada? if so, could be the add-on DRL box was improperly wired when they installed it.

No. It's the years. I have seen both versions of the DRL's on the roads.

The Service manual shows the difference too.

Check this thread out. I attached the pages from the manual showing the difference in the diagrams.

interesting. i don't think i've ever seen drl's from ANY manufacturer that make all the exterior lights illuminate when the car is on! (then again i really haven't paid attention).
i understand how you'd want to disable that!

I'm sure you can find a disable for your fogs that act as DRL's... As for the LED's that work as DRL's, No Problem... Read my post about Custom DRL install. Buy some LED lights, install them in the lower vent holes in any pattern that suits you. Buy a DRL controller that installs on the battery and automatically turns on / off by sensing volts. Wire the lights together and run leads to the DRL controller, and you will have COOL LED DRL any time you start your car. If you wire the DRL controller to your parking lights... it will automatically dim you LED's 30%, just like an OEM light would. All can be bought and installed for $50!
