Weird noise from seat belt retractor??

My g makes a weird sound above 60mph from the drivers side seatbelt adjuster area (next to drivers head). It sounds similar to the winding of a watch sound. Super annoying unless the tunes are cranked up.
I have the tech package and wonder if it is related to that pre-crash seatbelt system?
Holding/changing the belt or pushing against the adjuster makes no difference.
Any one else had this problem?
Thx

FYI, the front seat belt retractor/winder mechanism is way down deep in your B-pillar, if you had a rear sear passenger it'd be next to their toes. Up at head level where you are hearing something is just a comfort height adjuster and there isn't anything there that should be capable of making a noise, much less speed sensitive noise.

All G's, regardless of packages have ELR (emergency locking retractors) in all 4 seats as well as ALR (automatic locking retractors) in all seats but driver. ALR is what keeps a baby seat in place. ELR works when you apply the brakes abruptly & firmly at speeds over 10MPH. An electrical signal is sent to the retractor to lock it and prevent the belt from extending further. With the technology package this is still true, but you get the benefit of technology to send the same locking signal sooner if the system thinks a crash is inevitable. The end result is the same. The mechanism is either locked or unlocked. If you are able to pull slack when you hear this noise, its not ELR, or yours is broken.

There are 3 basic types of pretensioners. My 2013 uses pyrotecnic and its located on the seat belt extractor assembly in the B-pillar. I suspect all G37's and 07/08 G35's are this style. You'll often see these on the female buckle end, looks like a long canister of C02 is attached. As the name implies its explosive. When it goes off, it pulls a cable which brings in any belt slack and restrains the occupant snug into the seat. Obviously one-time-use.

I looked on some Infiniti parts websites and see the technology package equipped cars have a completely different part number (and price) for the seat belt retractor. So there is I suppose a chance that these also feature a mechanical pretensioner, which is a gear on a small electrical motor that pulls in the same slack and restrains the occupant. Like the pyrotechnic version, these are one-time use units and had to be replaced after a crash. Mechanical style were more common years ago and rattled like a can of bolts after they did their job. But again, if you are hearing this noise and can extend the belt then either the two aren't related or yours is certainly broken. Can you go into a parking lot and suddenly stab the brakes abruptly and hold firmly? Just wondering if your belts do infact lock. Believe speed needs to be above 15 MPH.

If you bought your car new or are 100% confident it has never been in a wreck, your seatbelt/restraint system warranty is 10 years from new purchase date/unlimited mileage. If something is defective, parts and labor are free. But I can't put the noise you hear, where you hear it, and when you hear it on anything to do with the seatbelts.

Thanks very much for the info. I don't get it either. I've broken down interiors and even replaced seat belts and what you said makes sense...yet the noise remains right by my left ear. I've flown jets for 20 years so with my bad hearing it is a decently loud noise...lol.
I'm going to try the brake check as mentioned and also see what the dealer says. I'd like to just remove that entire panel and put some dynomat around the area but not sure how it comes off and every time I force something it breaks.
