This summer I refurbished my PWC trailer and added Optronics "GloLight" LEDs. They are very similar to what you are wanting to do here and might be useful. Mine are oval but they are also made in 4-inch round and possibly others. The outside ring 'glows' and the center LED's are your stop/turn circuit.

Random example on a bass boat trailer:

The ones used in this mod are made by a company called COB. What I'm not sure on is the diameter. I messaged the company who did the mod asking if they could tell me what diameter they are.

Here's a link to red COB halos on Amazon. They're relatively cheap. Again, not sure what diameter.

Cool, my tails will get delivered tomorrow. Gonna take them over my friends house who has a lot of talent when it comes to electrical work. Will pop them open and take measurements on the halo ring sizes to use. I tried hitting up the original creator as well with no luck although he's been posting a bunch of pictures as of yesterday of the mod when I hit him up on facebook. Still hasn't responded back though.

I'm sure he's not wanting to share any secrets since it's his business. Not too complicated to figure this mod out though. I was debating on the dremel method or the soldering iron method to cut open the tails. The FRS guys apparently open their tail lights to paint the chrome trim this way, then reseal them.

Let us all know when you get the measurements. I'll order the halos asap and do mine. The ones in the Amazon link I posted are the ones they used.

I have a black car and I'm really looking forward to having that unique smoked effect by painting the chrome black on the inside. The halos are a really cool upgraded look as well. Really helps is resemble GTR tail lights.

We should dub this mod the "GTR tail light mod"
