So I decided to paint my non sport front lip myself, seeing as Moonlight Pearl is very expensive to have matched. I went with Paint Scratch for Factory OEM color match. The kit comes with Basecoat and Midcoat(Pearl) roughly $80.

Started by prepping with 600grit on the bare piece, followed by adhesive promoter and white sandable primer.

Now onto Basecoat, I wet sanded first with 400grit and then 600grit before the base went on.

Now onto the mid coat, this is the hard part because after each coat you will need to compare to your current paint on your G. In the sunlight and in the shade for perfection.



Once the pearl is where you want it, seal it up with some clearcoat, I did about 6-7 coats so that I could sand and polish later.

Very nice job, from those pics it looks like a nice match . I may have to do the same thing soon, my hydro-dipped chin spoiler looks like crap now as the clear coat they used didn't hold up well at all, and the carbon print also chipped out once it was unprotected

Only think I'd do different would be going w/ an Industrial clear coat since it goes on much thicker and dries to a harder shell. These clears are awesome FWIW~ Dupont Acrylic Clear A-7480s, Evercoat Cut-in-Clear, Spraymax 2k cut-in-clear. I'll have to check out that Paint Scratch kit. BTW would it be enough to paint a couple projects like maybe a grill too?

The kit I got was barely enough to do the lip, if your doing just a grill then one can is perfect. At least you won't need that second can(pearl).

The match is about 90%. Not perfect but hey it's a garage job.

 

That turned out pretty damn good. Nice job!

 

One word of caution for paint DIYers: make sure you shoot any paint well away from any vehicles. Wind will carry specs of paint all over the place and you'll end up re-claying your cars even if they're 20' away from where you're shooting.

 

Thank you for the idea! I did the same thing with my car except for the paint products. I went with automotivetouchup for the base color and 2k topcoat. Ended up paying a little over $100 because I bought some other stuffs too like a respirator and sandpaper. Still cheaper than $250-350 quotes that I got from the local body shops.

As far as matching goes, I want to say it's about 80%-90% match. It's a little brighter/whiter than the factory paint but you can't really tell if you stand 5 feet away. Anyway I'm happy with the result.

 

+1 for automotivetouchup. I used that to fix my OEM chin spoiler that I curbed.

It came out great. I was into them for $65 but my vibrant red (A54) is only a two step paint. I got sand paper, cleaning solution, sanding block, red primer, base, clear, rubbing compound. The match is very very close. ~95% I'd say. And have plenty left which I hopefully won't need.

+1 on the industrial clearcoat. I painted my grill and spoiler and the grill still looks alright because ti gets limited sun, but the formerly perfectly matching grill is now terribly oxidized after one year
