Chosing window tint

I searched

My stock G sedan is tintless. State law says 25% front sides and back sides, 5% back window. I'm debating going lower than this. Its so hard tell how dark I want it without much reference to look at. Possibly 5% back, 15% back sides and 25% front. Basically I want to very dark, but not impossible to see out of my front windows at night. Any thoughts or perhaps pictures and your %?

Let me just say that I used to have limo tint all the way around in my old car (5%) and during the blazing sun it's nice but at night I would literally be guessing when I was merging into traffic. Do not recommend 5% anywhere you plan to want to see out of.

My last car (Audi) had 5% behind the driver, 20% front windows. Other than backing up at night, I didn't have visibility issues. Backing up at night I would have to roll down the windows to see.

On my SUV, I've got 5% over the factory tint behind the driver and 20% on the front windows. Don't think I'll go that dark again.

My G came tinted and I think it's 35% up front and 20% in back. But the tint seems to be good quality at blocking heat and UV so I'm good with it.

I have 35% on the sides and 25% on the rear window. I wouldn't recommend getting 5% anywhere on the car because you won't be able to see at night without night vision goggles. Plus... all of the unwanted attention from police will make you miserable if they decide to pull you over and ticket you.

With tint... it's pretty simple. Go legal, or go home.

I must have posted in a different place because I to am getting my widows tinted this week. The questions.

1. Brand (Llumar)
2. Series (ATC, ATR or CTX)

But based on which series film you go with you wont have to go so dark to keep the thermal properties out. Unless some think the darker the tint the better it looks. I plan on getting 30% ATR with say a 10% strip. Any opinions? My car is Silver. My car is also a lease so unless things change I dont plan on keeping it. I also dont have Navigation so does it really matter about going with metallic or not? Also outside of Nashville,TN and paying $200. What is going for around the country

I paid about $250 in Maryland for Carbon, windows and back, no strip.

Its in AR. $150 for all windows, I know the shop owner so I could go as dark as I want. I will probably stick with legal in the front at 25% but 15% in the back windows, backing up I have the camera so I'm not too concerned there. Too bad I cant turn the camera on in any gear

I'm also tinting my windows soon and didn't realize there were so many choices. In MA the state law is 35% so I think I will just do that all the way around. Now I want the tints for looks and for the summers which can be warm up here. I also have a valentine one that has a radar detector for the rear of the vehicle so this mean I can't use tints that are metallic or it will affect the range of the radar detector right? What would be a suggestion for a good tint?

Tint laws vary by state. Here's a good chart for reference: Tint Laws. For example, 5% doesn't get me any attention here in AZ as it's well within the legal limits

You are reading it wrong ... 5% is 20% past state law (25%). The percent represents how much light passes through so in this case the smaller number the darker. Also, when it says NET that means you take the factory tint plus the film for the total. Sorry, I was wrong about MD, it's 35% not 45%. I think I went with 40 or 45% film plus the factory tint to get me close enough to legal.

Too dark, looks good but too dark, I prefer safety over "cool" factor. Anyone with 20% or darker that says it doesn't affect nighttime driving isn't really being honest. Not to mention a sporty car with obviously darker than legal tint is just begging for a ticket and having to get it removed, reinspected. Again, not worth the "cool" factor IMHO.

I dont recall, I knew the individual personally and trusted his judgement on the brand.

It affects the rear view for sure, the camera helps with this. The side views are fine for me, especially considering my last car had 5% on the side. I doubt I will be pulled over where I live for tint, it just doesnt happen unless your a minority driving a loud civic or other beater. There are also no inspections. On the rare occasion I was pulled over in my last car that had 5% tint (for speeding), just rolled down all the windows and put my hands outside of the car until I'm talking to the officer and give him my CCW. Not a ticket in 8 years doing this.
