G37 drivers side water leak
Greetings
A few months ago we had a big snowstorm in North Carolina and I noticed my drivers side floor mat was wet. I figured some snow in the tread of my boots had melted into water and didn't think much of it. Then the next time we got a heavy rainstorm the mat was pretty wet again. This has happened a few more times since then. A few details that I know:
- the car hasn't been wrecked or damaged
- it only happens when it rains (rules out air conditioning leak, etc)
- it happens if the car is parked, sitting still (rules out leak underneath car)
- the door and window are fully closed / shut
- only the drivers mat is wet, not the passenger front seat mat or either backseat mat
Today it rained hard for about 15 minutes and when I inspected the area afterwards, the rubber seals on the drivers door and vehicle were dry so it doesn't appear to be a pinched piece of trim. Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't yet taken it to the dealership to get them to look at it, nor have I done a "hose test" to try and isolate the area of the leak. Here are a few pictures. Any info is appreciated.

I did and not only is it not cracked or smashed down anywhere, but it was bone dry immediately after the rain. I specifically checked the entire length of stripping, anticipating originally that it must be getting through some small area is the stripping. But it was all completely dry, and just as flexible as you would expect it to be.
As you might have noticed in the pictures, and this was the first time I noticed this since I checked right after the rain, there was some water on the parking break pedal. It seems like it would be difficult for water to get there if the leak was soley on the door, but I'm not sure.

It started raining heavily about 20 minutes ago so I ran out to the car to get a look at where exactly the water was leaking. I took this video. Please let me know if you think this is indicative of the sunroof drain issue that a couple of you speculated, or something else. Also, as inyquest asked, how exactly would one go about maintaining them?

I've never had to fix the problem on the two G's I've had but there are typically four drains...two of which are located in the front left and right sides of the sunroof. Just take a look with a flashlight...easy to find to two front drains. Some people will blow compressed air into the hole...other might try snake string line from a weed eater through the holes. Again, I have not had to deal with that issue on my G. At one time you could pull the trim off of the inside of the A pillar and look at the line...but side air bags have made that a dangerous proposition...best left to a dealer IMO. Good luck...perhaps someone else on this site has had specific experience with the G.

And for the first time since I originally noticed it a few months ago, some of the fabric above the window was wet, which would lead me to believe the water is indeed traveling from somewhere near the roof down some channel to where the video shows it exiting. It rained really hard, so perhaps the fabric doesn't have time to get too wet in lighter precipitation.
I'll inspect the sun roof a lot closer tomorrow when it's dry and report back with any new findings.

Be careful with the forced air too. I agree that's a good way to fix it but, at least in other vehicles, that can lead to blowing the tubes off of their fittings. The best way is what financeman said: remove the A pillar trim but it has risks. I don't have experience in doing this with the G.
In my other ride the OEM cuts an X slit at the bottom of the tube and that allows dirt to accumulate. When owners get to the tube they open up the bottom more fully. I think if you Google the problem you might see a few answers and/or diagrams out there.

My leak was caused by the rubber engine bay firewall grommet coming unsecured. Water ran thru the firewall along the electrical and fried out the fuse block. What a headache. Took the dealer 2-3 months to figure out.

I had this same problem in my girlfriend's car. The sunroof drain runs from the sunroof down behind the a-pillar and connects to a plastic coupler behind the dash. This coupler runs through the firewall (you can't see it in the engine compartment) and drains the water. Apparently, the gasket deteriorates over time and the water then drains down the kick panel and under your carpet. Unfortunately, you don't notice it until it has been leaking for quite a while. When I pulled her car apart there must have been 2" of water on the floor board. By the little bit of research I did, the fix is to pull the dash and silicone the coupler to the firewall. I wasn't going to pull the dash so I crammed my fingers behind there and tried silicone-ing it....twice. No help. Then I started to worry if I did get it to seal that it would eventually leak again. So, I fixed it another way.
I had already started sucking the water out...
Here is the sunroof drain along with a piece of copper tube I used for a coupler.
I slid a piece of rubber hose over and added zip ties so I didn't slide off.
I then routed it behind the dash, under the brake pedal (I had to unbolt it - not shown) and through the hole in the firewall.
Here is where it comes out in the engine compartment.
Maybe not the "proper" thing to do but it cost me nothing and I will never worry about it leaking again. I did remove the driver's seat and some trim allowing me to lift the carpet up. I sucked out all the water and allowed it to dry in my garage for a couple of days with a fan on it.
