Hey all, just followed the DIY for replacing the steering wheel trim and all went well until i got to the very end, where i slide the airbag back into the steering wheel and put the tamper proof screws back in. It seems like the air bag isn't sitting exactly the way it should be. It feels like I have to put about 30lbs of pressure in order to push the horn. I think it has something to do with the metal plate that it sits in. Can anyone look at the pics below and tell me if things look right? I think the bottom part of the air bag bracket (black plastic part, with >PA66< on it) is not aligned, and if not, how should it sit? The springs underneath the torque screws are squished really tight too--not sure if they're supposed to be like that. In one pic, you can see the copper circle touching the dimple on the airbag plate, which i think makes the horn beep? When I hook up the battery, the horn goes off...

 

Black wires should go underneath the aluminum steering wheel frame.

 

the problem was that the aluminum bracket that the air bag slips into was bent at the bottom (where it is marked >PA66<). i just used a vise grip to bend it backwards so that it ended up slipping into the slot on the steering wheel frame. |_ ---- _|

everything else about this install is like fool proof. worth the money and minimal effort.
