License Plate light/and trunk release

OK...I believe I have a new one. My main concern is the license lamps. But it's odd the trunk release doesn't work either. Let me cover the bases, I've checked the "illumination fuse"....and swapped it. Then not satisfied....I turned the headlines on with the fuse in and out. the taillights come on, glove box works, lamp light good. No license lamp. Checked the bulb connections....the connection to the bulb power piece and also the connection that powers the left and right lamp. Swapped with 194 bulbs....and 168 bulbs since the LED replacements say both bulb types work with their bulbs....so I tried them both. I'm losing my mind.

My next thought is seeing if there is voltage so maybe I can attach an LED strip and be legal. Any thoughts???

Ok...lets go over some stuff.....is you glove box light, map reading light, and cigarette not working as well? I thought the rear lights were on that fuse path. Let me know, and we can go from there. The fuse is a quick fix. I had to splice my wire to work. All I can help with.

Hi I'm Dennis, long time lurker just decided to register when I saw your post.
I had the same problem, did all the same troubleshooting you did, I discovered the mechanic that worked on my car cross connected the plate light and trunk antenna connector, they are the same.
So if for some some reason you had work done on the back of your car the connectors may be crossed. If hey they were just not connected reconnect them but the connectors are the same so see witch one works with the plate light and the other will go to the antenna.
If they were connected incorrectly the antenna has probably burned out from the constant current from the plate light connector. To examine the connection and antenna to see if it has melted shine a flashlight and look through the gap above the license plate and between the plate lights.
If that's your problem and you need to get to the antenna and connectors, remove your license plate, remove the plastic piece on the bumper, and remove the metal plate lights housing. Doing this will give you room to work. I paid around $25 for the antenna at the dealer.
I hope this helps..
