Tail light over lay attempt

So im going to attempt to put the overlays on my self. I have a heat gun and im guessing i need a bottle of soap bubbles.

Any suggestions to make my life easier never done this before? i have the gtr over lays so everything is already cut out and aligns perfectly.

Just be patient with it.. I tried to do mine.. but it didn't work out and I had to scrap them completely... at this point I'd rather get them tinted professionally, or painted.

In hindsight, as long as you go slow, keep them wet, use a credit card or whatever to smooth things out (a piece of rubber is ideal), just be mindful of the corners towards the outside of the car.. that's the tough spot.. getting over that curve and keeping everything in line can be a bitz.

Hopefully I didn't scare the crap out of you.. plenty of others have had zero issue putting them on.. I think I just approached it wrong, and got frustrated with it. So don't do that

I wouldn't recommend DIY unless you have some experience with tint films. I personally failed at DIY and had to buy the replacement. Now taking it to the pros!

If you still insist on the DIY you can pick up a tinting application kit at any local auto store if in stock. I got one at Advance Auto and it came with everything needed besides the talent lol

Take your time and hope you have better patience than I did GL.

I DIY'd mine and wasn't too bad once I got the hang of how to work w/ the vinyl. Looking back I should have went straight to the paint, much happier w/ my painted GTR tails, looks like a factory job. My overlays came out nice but up close you can see the vinyl edges where the cutouts meet the plastic and doesn't look as clean.

It's a fun project and nice once you get to the point where you're winning. The first one took me about 1.5 hrs, but the 2nd one took about 20 minutes. The main advice I can give you is use a hair dryer rather than a heat gun, too much concentrated heat and it'll get hard to work with if you heat, stretch, place, then have to do it again. Just use a hair dryer and only as needed. The vinyl is very pliable prior to heat but gets stiff and loses adhesion if you're working it w/ heat too much.
Good Luck!

It does take a lot of patience but I wasn't going to let a scrap of vinyl kick my as$
IMO unless you're on a lease I'd go w/ a paint over a vinyl tint job. Here's a good DIY for coupes
