Something odd happening with a rear tail light

I have a 2010 G37x (auto) that I bought back i summer of 2010. It has 27K miles on it and recently, I noticed something odd with my driver side tail light.

The housing is been sinking into my car and is not flush with the rest of the car. I really can't explain it... I tried taking some pics, in case it helps.

This is the drivers side. You can see how there are chips (white parts) in the paint, but really, this paint came off because of the housing is literally grinding against the metal/paint.

This is the passengers side. Smooth as it was when I bought it.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I can cover up the chipped paint but I'm worried if there's going to be any long-term issues here.

I really don't want how else to explain it honestly. The driver side tail lamp housing itself simply isn't flush with the rest of the car... it's in deeper than the passenger side tail lamp. It's like, somebody pushed it in.

It looks like its off just a tiny bit.

I would remove the trunk back cover and inspect the mounting points/tabs. May be as simple as an adjustment.

Did you try this. I know there is some adjustments that can be done, kind of curious cause my left rear is doing the same.

Going to wait til my rear aero comes.

After painting mine GT style I didnt tighten the bolts up snug enough causing it to do the same. IMO the top bolt is loose causing it to vibrate and chip... same thing happened till I tightened it...
Looks fine now...
8-9 mm socket and tighten very carefully...
you can loosen the ine by the reverse light first and play with them till it adjusts right... theres only 3 bolts and 2pegs... take off the light to inspect... easy to do...

If the tail lamps were replaced at one time, they might have not replaced the mounting pins. The pins serve 2 purpose, one to mount, the other to hold the lamp away from the body.
