Accent lighting in footwells and heads up display

I dont know if anyones done this before, but this is a pretty cool DIY I thought Id share.

I basically bought a strip of blue LEDs for 10 bucks and stuck them under the steering well and glovebox with double sided tape and wired it to turn on when my parking/headlights are switched on (so that it only lights up when its dark outside). I installed a strip of 6 LEDs on each side but it was a touch too bright, so I just taped over the middle 2 LEDs with some electricians tape.

The only PITA was that I had to remove the bottom half of the center console which included removing the shift ****. Although this did give me a chance to clean and condition the leather holding the shift ****.

Oh if you also noticed on the bottom of the window above the dash I installed a Heads up display. It plugged right into the OBD port below the steering wheel and its pretty cool as it gives you speed, RPM, MPG, engine temp and battery voltage. In the picture its set to display voltage. Best thing is that it is running the info in real time from the OBD port!

Looks just like my G in the inside. Nice work! What kind of heads up system is that? It's kind of hard to see but I thought this was something that should have at least been standard in the sports model.

I am pretty sure its an app.... you use a bluetoth OBDII and connect it to your phone then launch an app and place it into HUD mode which just sets it backwards to reflect off your window.

Haha I wanted to share the accent lighting I did but I guess everyone is interested in the HUD. Its is pretty cool. They sell these online. Im currently in Korea so I got a model that does both MPH and KPH.

Heres a link to this model with MPH that I have and a link to a Korean style Ebay site. Its in Korean but there are videos imbedded towards the bottom.

But I actually like this one better as its in color.

You it place on your dash and it reflectus up onto your windshield. Its works just like that except there is a slight double image since the windshield is double laminated? So I put on a small piece of tint for it to reflect onto. This makes it clearer and easy to see. It kinda bothered me at first to have a small rectangle of tint there but I got used to it.

Well, i stand corrected.

Sidenote: i have an app that does the same thing, but its useless unless its dark. Without a proper window reflective inlay it just strains your eyes a bit

Actually the HUD I have is pretty bright so you can still see it pretty clearly unless its super sunny out. The piece of tint I put in front of it on the windshield helped make it even clearer and brighter. Although truthfully I put it on mainly because there was a very slight double image. The tint usually comes with these units.

The second HUD I listed is really good too, Ive seen it in person and like it cause its in color instead of just green or blue. But I got the one I got as it does both KPH and MPG.
