New Car - Smacked Windshield-Replaced-Smacked Again

Just to let everyone know that it's just so fun when you have a car that's only 5 months old and you get hit with a nice size rock into the windshield while driving on the freeway. Just love that ****. New one was installed today and so far it looks great. Man it was quite involved but the tech. seemed to know what he was doing. In fact he had just changed out a windshield on a fairly new GTR just a few days earlier. Now let's just hope it can go a few years or more before I get dinged again.

UPDATE Well I've had the new windshield in for a little over a week and while driving home on our famous Highway 50 in Sacramento, out of the blue another small rock hit the new windshield on the lower left corner just above the hood of the car. Now I have a new bullseye crack on a new windshield. Made a new appointment to have that fixed with Safelite's bullseye repair kit. Luckily it's not in the line of sight and will probably not even be noticed once it's fixed. Still sometimes things come in three and I hope it's over for awhile.

Al

That aint ****. A former employee I had "let go" decided he wanted to put a brick through my windshield a few days after I bought my car brand new. When i called insurance the woman was like..."uhhh didnt you just buy this car?"...lol. They came out on the spot and replaced it with a new oem one.

It was an insurance claim Wyldfyer. They tried to do a simple fix with the resins and such but it din't take. So they had to go with a new OEM windshield route. Luckily it was taken care of under comprehensive coverage and I have a $50 deductible on that.

Cheap deductible. How much are you paying for insurance though? My coworker has 50$ deductible as well and he's paying like over 400-500$ for insurance, for a few vehicle.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip! I need to check my insurance. I have a rock chip that got worse when I had the cat sitting for 2 weeks.

There should be no way that this windshield should leak. Since Safelite is a major company, they also have a lifetime warranty on the fix so they don't want to take out a windshield to fix a leak or be screwing around with it because it takes a lot of dismantling of trim pieces just to get at the windshield area.

Also I was watching him and when he applied the new urethane sealant the bead was not only thick and uniform, it was shaped in triangle with the pointy end up. When the glass was put on, this shape would guarantee a tight and complete seal because there wouldn't be too much sealant at the top and that would spread out to the full width of the bead all around the windshield. In fact it was almost too much sealant because I had to have him push down the glass to get it flush with the roof line. So far I've had no wind noise whatsoever and tomorrow I'll let you know on any leaking because I'll be washing the car.

So you use Safelite service? Do they use OEM parts?
I am going to replace the windshield of my 2011 coupe. Based on my research, a few things need to be removed. I am worried about they are inexperienced and may screw up big time.

Thanks
