Rear Stock Chrome Trunk Spoiler Painted? Pics
Rear Stock Chrome Trunk Spoiler Painted? Pics
Hey Forum,
I tried searching using different key terms such as ' Sedan stock spoiler paint, Sedan chrome trunk spoiler paint', etc and didn't really come up anything for the Sedan but rather Coupe.
What I am looking for is pictures of G37 Sedans that have the rear trunk chrome spoiler color-matched to the body of the car. I have a Graphite Shadow 37. My plan is to get the AutoX rear diffuser painted in black. For the spoiler, I was contemplating getting the stock chrome painted black/GS, if not purchase a stock spoiler/AutoX custom spoiler.
Thanks for the thoughts

I have a painted spoiler in Graphite Shadow but never installed it. I think I bought it from 180 Customs. I can place it close so you can see it if you want. I will change it out once/if I have the chrome around the windows wrapped in black vinyl.
On a dark-ish colored car, like your Graphite Shadow, I rather think the chrome lip would look fine when body colored. Have you shopped a picture to that effect? It might look really good.
On a light colored car, like Moonlight White... not so much. Blacked out chrome cheapens a white car, IMO. Like something a kid would do with too much time on their hands.
You can't go wrong with the trunk spoiler, though. When looking for a G, I was planning all along to buy the spoiler, but then got lucky enough to find a car with one already installed. All by itself, the trunk spoiler will set your G apart from 98% of the G Sedans on the road.
That new Graphite Shadow is a gorgeous color, BTW. Lucky you.

But I do agree, the OEM lip spoiler will be the route to go if you don't want the chrome. Autokits spoiler looks similar, but too bulky. Plus it goes over the chrome spoiler, so the camera and trunk release button is recessed in. It will hinder part of your back up cam visibility.

Agreed with the spoiler as well. I like the stock spoiler but would keep my options open to see if something different is available on the market. The KT or the AutoX spoiler both are very similar in design and make the rear more aggressive.
Thanks! Beautiful color. The only thing I would do the 'body' itself, would black roof and maybe chrome pillar delete to black.
I actually think chrome cheapens a car overall, no matter where it's at. IMO, it's like the car is trying to hard with embellishments to bling itself out. Especially when it's just plastic at the end of the day.

And that's OK. I rather like you, and opinions are best made when they can be discussed and defended. If all we do is sing kumbaya every time someone says "Look at my awesome mods!", then this forum is pointless.
You know what? You've got a Graphite Leather interior, and mind is Stone Leather; (which is almost "cream" colored, actually.) A lot of our differences in stylistic preference for the car probably originates there.
We both have MW Sport Sedans, Sniper, and clearly our opinions on this are diametrically opposed. That's been popping up here and there whenever we cross threads.

But I personally think white and red color G's pull off the chrome only.
**Stone rather than wheat.
True. I think the black is geared more towards the sportier look. A lot of car manufacturers also use black/cf/dark trim on their sport models, while reserving the chrome trim on their base or luxury models. I test drove a MW with wheat interior and I felt like I was in a Buick. The graphite seems sportier and flows better with the aluminum trim. Stone would be my second choice, but felt the graphite will mask dirt better. I've heard a lot of bad cases of dye bleeding onto the light color. Even the dealer told me it happens to his car. So it all depends on what you're going for in the end.
Seems the three of us are finding similarity in our opinions. That can happen when you actually discuss things, instead of get all butt-hurt because someone doesn't agree with you.
Nice.
Nice.
I've been on the fence about painting the stock chrome trunk lip for my obsidian black sedan for a little while now. At first the chrome trim didn't bother me at all. Then, I had the chrome trim around the windows blacked out, and now I've come to the decision that the chrome trunk lip just sticks out too much for my taste on my car.
So, this weekend I'm taking the dive and I'm going to have the chrome trunk lip done as well. I will be sure to post pics of the final result when it's all said and done.
I agree with you guys saying the chrome trim goes well with lighter colors.

Thanks jdmposer.
Even with black it will give me an idea. The car is going to the bodyshop next week to get a few things done [fogs, trunk lip, grille, debadge, etc], so your pictures will hopefully give me an idea.
On your chrome pillar, how did you do that? I was even thinking of getting mine painted black as well but if you did a "DIY", please do share.

Fogs: External Housing - Color-Matched or Black. Chrome does match with the headlights, so I may not change it but still in the thought process.
What I meant by chrome pillar is the chrome trim around the window on the side of the G.
