Automatic Light Issue

Hey all.

Recently I've been having issues with my headlights staying on during the day (when set to the automatic mode). It's a quick fix, just turning them off manually, but still slightly annoying.

Has anybody else had this problem/ know any quick fix other than taking the car to the dealership?

Thanks!

Maybe something is wrong with the switch? Maybe auto is also being recognized as ON by the switch.

I know there's a light sensor on the dash somewhere. The owner's manual should show you where it id. If it's covered or obstructed, it will think that it's dark all the time and keep your headlights on.

I had a similar problem to you today! I have a 2009 g37x.

It only happened to me once, I got the car 2 days ago so....
I got out of my car during the day today, and i looked at the bush i parked in front of and saw the lights from my headlights on the bush, so i walked in front of my car, the lights were on. so i walked back to my car and looked at the light switch, and it was set to automatic.....

not sure what happened. I thought it was just a glitch. it bothered me at first but so i turned off the lights. and when i drove home, i set it back to automatic and when i got home and turned my car off, the lights turned off too.

weird

Might be because it is the winter time here in the northern hemisphere and there is less light.

It's dark when I go to work in the morning and the sun sets when I leave work now. My lights are pretty much on all the time now.

I was wondering the same thing. Havin ur light on auto, doesnt it mean it will " automatically " come on when it senses dark and stay off when there's light??? When i have it on auto...its on no matter when im driving...is this normal? Also, my headlights only light up a short distance, maybe 20 feet in front from my front bumper. And its beams staight out, i mean, it doesnt even flare up to reach a stop sign. Help?

You could try adjusting the sensitivity setting in your conv/comf menu.

I bet the dash mat is the reason my Z doesn't turn off. Most of the time the G will eventually, sometimes it takes a bit after coming out of the garage, l;ike 10+ minutes to turn off. They turn on in parking garages and such as well and take time to turn off. I really don't mind it. After a while I don't even notice anymore. I just like the fact they turn off by themselves.

Start your car and keep it I n park. Push settings. Select comfort/convenience. Second line down should say "auto headlight sensitivity".

Not saying it will fix the problem, but it's worth a shot.

The auto headlight off delay is in the menu I speak of as well. You can adjust it to turn off immediately if you choose.

Mine turn off immediately.

I stopped using my auto headlight feature.
Whenever I move my car out of the garage to get to my motorcycle or just normal entering or exiting the garage, the headlights would come on.
I had read somewhere that cycling the headlights too often will lead to them prematurely failing.
