has anyone tried this headlight mod?

I think the G37 headlights look the best from the angle where you are looking at them straight ahead like in the first attached picture.

However, when you look at the headlights from the side they extend down the side of the car and keep going. See the second attached picture. The turn signal is like 13 inches long lol. I think that this is a design flaw .

So my thought for a headlight mod is an eyelid that cuts off the top half of the headlight "cone" that stretches down the side of the car. This would create a straight line for the top of the headlight that would run parallel to the line at the bottom of the headlight. See the third attached picture.

Actually - the bottom of the G37 headlight has a very very slight curve. So my idea for the mod is that it would have a very very slight curve in the *opposite* direction. I think the end effect would look something between a Mercedes CLS headlight and a Lexus SC 430 headlight. I think this would give a more balanced, classier look to the headlight.

So has anyone here ever seen an eyelid like this for the G37?

Given that the headlights are elongated on purpose to flow with the sweeping gentle lines of the body work, I think that would look absolutely horrible. The headlights are one of the main things that makes the front end better looking than the G35 IMO.

The proportions of the G37 are fairly similar to the Lexus SC430 so why not adopt a similar headlight style?

The Mercedes CLS is a fairly long car so it makes sense to have longer headlights with the CLS and the execution of the headlight design is much better with the CLS IMHO.

Go for it. Post up the results. But I still think that it's murdering one of the front end's best features. But you know what they say about opinions...

The front of the g37 is more similar to the front of the sc 430 than any other car ever invented. So refining the top of the g37 headlights to look more like the headlights on the sc430 doesn't seem like such a far-fetched idea.

Can you explain why you think it's such a stupid idea?

I only have basic MS Paint skilz

But I think that the top of the headlight could be refined to look much better - more similar to the sc430/s430/cls550.

I have a pet peeve against poorly designed headlights/tail lights.

If an eyelid can bring the design back into proportion then it's like a personal victory

Just like Black Betty said, the headlights of the 37 are one of the things that makes the front end look better than the 35. And honestly, our cars aren't trying to be a sc430 or a cls550. I think doing such a mod would simply ruin the flow of the car.

Totally up to you though, if you want to do something like this then go for it. And then show us the results. If it looks great then you'll get good comments, if not then don't be surprised if people dump on it.

^^^ Agreed. Do what you want, it'd be interesting to see I guess. But I like the "tough" look of the pissed off headlights.
