Failed Attempt at Window Tint

So....I'm not a pro but I've tinted 4 of my previous cars with little to no problems.(with the exception of the rear window, which I will not go into ) Anyways.....How the hell are you supposed to tuck the tint into the lip on the bottom of the glass considering how tight it is. I think I tried everything. Removing the door panel doesn't help because that lip is not a part of it. I bought some precut tint from ebay to save some time and just to see it would go since I've used it before. I failed miserably. NeEdz help! I would really like to do this myself just for a challenge.

when my guy installed tints on my car, we took out what he called " the pins" which keep the windows from rolling down when opening the door on the coupe. idk if thats what gave him enough clearance to tuck it, but my tint job looks pretty much perfect

Try this..

Close your door so the window goes up then disconnect the battery and open the door. It doesn't go down anymore! Leave the battery disconnected though until done.

geez, best idea is to pay a professional to do it. you probably should practice on a bunch of crappy cars before u do it on your G

Tape down the little button on the door that makes the window go up and down when you close/open the door. (no need to mess with disconnecting the battery).

Then get a little credit card sized plastic squeegee to tuck the tint in to the seals.

That's what my prof installer did.

Good Luck!

wow ... am I the only one reading he didn't have problems with the window up/down but rather the rubber seal strip that presses against it? Nothing to do with the window going slightly down with the door open.

Yea man you are the only one reading it that way cuz thats nots what he is saying. Here ya go again for refresher: So....I'm not a pro but I've tinted 4 of my previous cars with little to no problems.(with the exception of the rear window, which I will not go into ) Anyways.....How the hell are you supposed to tuck the tint into the lip on the bottom of the glass considering how tight it is. And this guy nailed the solution:

You can also use a clamp to press the button in the door jam down. This causes the window to sit higher so all you have to do is tint the full window and when it goes down it will fall into the lip at the bottom of the window.goodluck buddy

Dude, he mentions NOTHING about the window up/down. The rubber seal at the bottom is tight regardless if the window is all the way up or down a 1/2". OP ... please clarify. You want the tint to go a fraction below the seal so it won't tend to peel it away over time.

HAHHAHAHHAHAHAH!!! bro listen im a window tinter by trade. go to a pro and have it professionally done. it takes years to hone the necessary skills to do a proper clean cut job. the bottom gaskets your speaking of is done by inserting the bottom first then moving the film till you have it positioned right, then tack the film and squeegee. AGAIN I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH GO TO A PRO!!! there is a reason we charge what we do because its a skill that most people cant do!!!!

not to mention you need a heat gun and you need to learn to shrink the film. not just the back glass but the side windows need to be shrunk for tension as well. GO TO A PRO!

its like trying to install a transmission when you dont know how to change a tire!

I tried one time many years ago, with tint film from walmart and after trying 1 side window I said 'no more', returned the tint to the store and forgot about it.
