Removing chrome window trim

Removing chrome window trim
Has anyone pulled this stuff off yet? Is it hard to do without bending it? I am going to pull my grill and paint it, and I am not crazy about all the chrome, and thought about trying to pull it off and paint it at the same time. Any tips?

Seems like a big hassle to remove all the trim. But I kinda like the chrome, I think it makes the car look richer and really pop. Now when people start overdoing it, for example putting on that chrome film on top of the black part of the doors in the middle - Now that's too much, very tacky. But the way the car is right now, I think it has the perfect amount of chrome. But everyone has different taste.

You can just buy black tape to wrap the chrome instead of painting it. There are black automotive tapes for this purpose and manufacturers actually use these to black out the B-pillars (i.e. the window frames between the front and rear doors in the middle) in most economy cars.
P.S.: More expensive cars get an actual black trim for the B-pillar.

You need a trim removal tool. It looks like a handlebar mustashe with a handle where your nose should be. Some auto parts store may carry it, but more likely a tool truck like snap-on or matco will have it. You still need to be careful using it or you will bend the trim.
