Disconnect Battery for Ill Kickplate install??

For people who installed the illuminated kick plates did you disconnect the battery before pluging them in?

Instructions show to do it, but was wondering if I really need to.

anytime your working with anything electric I would disconnect it...

I learned the hard way when installing an intake on my maxima.... blew the window fuses some how... who knows

but it takes 15 seconds to do it so might as well do it.
