You pop off the panels, unscrew 10 screws, drill 2 holes (doesn't have to be exact), plug some stuff in, and then put the screws and plastic back in. It's a lot easier than the instructions look, I promise.

 

Well I installed my kit yesterday. It wasn't TERRIBLE....but I was just being overly cautious not to F-up any of my interior pieces that I took off. And I completely agree with you about the silly Infiniti people telling you to use Fish tape to route the wire through to the driver's side......I used a straightened out metal clothes hanger! Worked like a charm. On a side note.....do NOT buy this kit an expect to find an exact 10.5mm drill bit like the instructions suggest. I checked WalMart and Home Depot. Ended up with a Ryobi drill bit kit that had a 10.3mm equivalent which worked just fine. The lights look great at night. Took it out for a spin once it got dark and they're a nice touch. It's a fun little project and it's kinda hard to F-up the install if you follow the directions (thus why I didn't do a DIY). Also installed Black Betty's newest version grounding wire kit......made an afternoon of it all!

 

See, wasn't that bad. I used an 8mm bit and then made it bigger with a flat head screwdriver. Did you put the wires through the vent or through the gap between the dash and the floorboard? Now you see why I didn't do a DIY, because the instructions are pretty easy to follow and like you said it's hard to F-up. I took my time as well so I wouldn't mess up all the dash pieces. If I had to do it again though, would get it done a lot quick because I know how it comes apart.

 

Nope I put the wire between the gap of the dash and floorboard....much easier/bigger space to work with. I like the final product. Very nice and classy touch to the interior. Thanks for the help man!

I agree. I could buy the wire at home depot and LEDS from V-LEDS and solder this up for under 50 bucks.

 

But would those LEDs be the same color as the one next to the map lights? And plugging right into the glove box harness is nice and easy.

 

Just go to an electronics store and get either cold cathode tubes, or LED's you'll save a nice chunk by not purchasing their over priced kit, the install is pretty simple tap into a power, and ground it to the floor or another ground if available.

 

Yes! I replaced my map lights and door lights with V-LEDS white and they are the same color.

Because I love the purple glow on the dash gauges I'm not only going to wire up some accent lights in white but a few in purple to highlight areas like door handle and center console where shifter is.

You can buy these cheap $5.00 dollar 194 sized Wedge bulb side marker lights (Advanced Auto Parts, PepBoys)and strip them of the 194 size wedge bulb housing and use them for your lighting MODs so that if the LEDs blow its plug and play replacement. Did this MOD on my floating Kicker AMP.

LEDs pull very little power so all you have to do is use a light gage wire and use a LED bulb that doesn't draw more current than AMP'd on that line from the fuse and your good to go. Hook it to any power source that is on when the car is. But of course a little math will tell you how much draw of power you have on that fuse so you don't go blowing it.

There is some good articles here on lighting. And a couple pro light moders too.

 

Guess Ill have to order this Kit. My Touareg has the convenience lighting and it is sweet. Supprised its not standard...

Just found that on ebay and was about to ask if anyone has tried it, and then I found this thread.

And if you think it's too bright, then turn off some of the LEDS?

For these accent lights, do you leave them on while driving? Or only when the door is opened?

 

DAMN that's bright. The OEM Infiniti Accent Lighting kit only turns on when you turn on your headlights. They do NOT come on with opening the doors (even though I wish they would). So no, they're not "always on", only when using the headlights. But yeah, that eBay kit looks a bit bright/ricey to me.

 

what is the actual part# for the Infiniti kit? I found one for sale and want to know if it is the same kit.

 

Just finished doing this myself. It does look very cool cool at night. I have 2 things to add to this, though. You might as well time it and change your in-cabin air filter and LED glove box light at the same time. You pretty much have done most of the work anyway.

It is a little pricey but is is very hard to screw something up to and you don't have to splice any wires, just plug and play as others have mentioned. Took me a little over an hour with one beer break in the middle.

 

For those who find it pricey you can put in DieselDoug's mod your self, and spend the money left over on beer
