AFS stands for Automated Frontal Lighting System I believe. My car has it and I thought that its screwed up becuase every time I'm in a stand still and turn the steering wheel, only the right side moves. I checked the manual it just said what it does. I thought the drivers side wasn't working so I went to the dealer yesterday to ask them about it. (I had a scheduled appointment becuase the plastic seal for the window on the outside of the drivers door is cracked, i have two bubbles, one on the rear left piller and one on the seat, passanger mirror is a bit choppy when adjusting, rattling noise from exhaust when starting up, cracked speaker grille, rear seat has a deep scratch in it, seat needs to be replaced....the list just goes on) I basically told them I will buy the car under the conditions that they fix all those things and they said yes so I finally found time to leave my car and they gave me a loaner 08 g35x after a long argument over them not wanting to give me the car because I'm only 18 years old.

Anyways if anyone else here has AFS and wonders why the left side doesnt turn, its because you have to be going 15-20mph for it to engage and the left side moves about half as much as the passanger side. Also they work in unisin so if one stops working, so should the other that way you can tell its non functional. It makes sense but the guy that told me this claimed to be the "service manager." I caught him in the lie later in the day so he might have just told me that for satisfaction.

Thanks for reading.

I had an e92 328i coupe with afs and it did the same thing. The reasoning behind only the passenger side moving and not the driver's side is to prevent blinding oncoming drivers as the mechanism swivels the headlight while steering around a corner or winding road.
