Painting the stock G37 Grille Black

I just got an '08 G37S in BS fully loaded and I wanted to know if painting the stock grille black is going to stick or going to crack/flake/chip off too soon for it to be worth it to paint. I called a bodyshop and the guy told me it would, but I wanted to hear from other people on how their painted stock grilles held up.

Most of the people's grilles that I've seen done have held up pretty well, aside the basic rock chips that you get on our grille when it's stock. Remember that it's all about the prep work.

Yeah take it somewhere else or do it yourself... I did it myself with rattlecan in hand and it came out pretty good... Just need to sand down the chrome, primer it, and shoot it with about 4 coats of finish and 5 coats or more of clearcoat... Mine's holding up just fine so far.... Had it for about a month now...

I used Duplicolor primer, paint, and clearcoat. Sandpaper was a 3M Brand 800 Grit...

I'm about to do mine w/ my cousin in a few days. He actually went to a supplier that sells paint to body shops and they recommended a brand to him that many body shops use. I'll post up a DIY up soon, hopefully by this weekend. He used this process and paint on his old Land Cruiser. He actually used industrial adhesive to help the primer stick better. They recommended him to use 300 grit on the chrome paint. You actually have to have it to a pint where it's rough, but not to coarse, and not have it too smoth to where the primer and paint don't stick well.

Took mine to the body shop down the street, charged me $75. I have had it painted for 8 months with no chips and on my G35 for a couple years with no problems.

Sounds like exactly what I did with two other guys on the forum. Search for the DIY. Mine's fine with no crack or chip so far.
