Window tint interfering with GPS???

So I drove to a few shops to get prices for tinting and one guy told me that unless you get "ceramic/metalized" tint the regular tint will interfere with GPS and radar detectors. I had never heard this before so I'm wondering if what he said was valid.
I went to another place and they said they use Solarguard and haven't had any problems with interference. Anyone use solarguard and would recommend it?

Suntek makes a black carbon film that's pretty good. Other folks have use metalic films here and dont' seem to be having issues. I went with carbon just to be safe.

A thing to keep in mind is that the GPS antenna is by the front window and not the back window. You might only have to worry about FM resception. AM should be good and so should SAT radio since the antenna is outside.

Yeah when I went in to get a quote at the tint shop acouple months ago, he said that metalic tints might interfere with the GPS. I haven't got mine tinted yet so I don't know if that is true or not, but I think there might be some truth to it.

i've had many cars with all kinds of tint w/all kinds of gps systems, both built in and remote, and none of them were ever affected by the tint. i've never even heard of anyone ever having any problems at all.

get METALLIC on the SIDE windows
CERAMIC on the REAR window

metallic will interfere to some extent - sometimes it's bad sometimes not noticable - ceramic will never interfere

ceramic and metallic both are great at keeping heat from the sun out also which is great, better than like standard tint film

then you have no problems at all

also i am pretty sure the gps and phone are in the rear window area - not up front but i guess i could be wrong

Well, I had 5% tint on my G35 and I could tell that the FM channels got a bit "scratchy" in the sound quality. The tint shop had told me this would happen but I ignored it
