I know this may seem too simple but bear with me.......if using the auto mode of the headlights so they come on when it senses darkness, how do you get them to not come on right away when you enter / exit the garage?? Because of this I don't use the auto function........thanks for info......

 

Solely out of curiosity here , I have no answer for you....what could be so bad about the headlights coming on in the garage to prevent you from using the auto feature?

It's bad for your Xenon bulbs. Unecessary switching on and of should be avoided to prolong bulb life.

To the OP, there is no way to do this. You can adjust sensitivity, but being in a dark garage they will go on regardless of that setting.

 

Just used the auto headlights n drove into the garage. I was thinkin the same thing

 

Since this is only an issue during the day time, I turn it off when pulling into the garage. Yeah it sucks since it happens in tunnels, under bridges, etc..

So is it bad for the actual bulbs? Or the ballast perhaps? I don't know the mechanics of HID that well. At least bulbs are cheap...

 

its the filament in the bulb that gets burnt out. ballast is solid state and just steps up the 12v to higher voltage

 

I read it was bad for the bulbs as well....I was hoping there was a way to delay the on setting.......oh well.......not so automatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I wonder if this is a setting that can be controlled or adjusted by the dealer???

um, its bad to switch them on, off, and then back on again quickly, but I wouldnt expect any issues from them just turning on for 30 seconds when you pull in the garage.

The damage is done when you re-ignite the bulb before it has had a chance to cool down.

 

My guys at the grauge said not to use the auto light because when you are out in the dark and start the car the HID come on frist than the engine starts. and it not good for the lights it will brun out faster. Always start your car frist than turn on light

 

Wouldn't it be safe to say that Infiniti mighthave thought of these things when making something minute like an entire car. They put it on there because it's a luxury car. I'm important and shouldn't have to turn my headlights on and off. It's not like you're not changing the oil. The headlights turn on and off for a bit. It's a bulb....

Not to highjack thread but I have a related question.

Just what does the auto headlight sensitivity setting do? Is + more sensitive to light or more sensitive to dark? In other word is full + mean they come on sooner stay on longer or is that full - . Manual does not spell that out.

 

I believe the higher the setting, the more sensitive they are to dark.
