Opinions on tinting (CA)
Hi all,
Just purchased my black on black G37 yesterday and was planning to get my windows tinted. Ideally, I'd love to get as dark a tint as possible (with equal % on side and rear windows) without risking the attention to of too many CHP officers...any opinions on what % grade tint I should get? And any pictures of suggested solutions? Thanks in advance!

20% is the way to go for sure, I know people who have 5% and get pulled over alot, but 20% is not visable and is a very good choice, i havent been pulled over at all in my jeep commander and im going to do the same on my g37
Nice!
Here's another question...I'm relatively new to the whole tinting process and have reading about it on this forum like crazy...
It looks like the top tints are 3M, Llumar, and Huber Optik?
What are the differences between the 3? And if you had to rank the 3, what would 1, 2 and 3?...or are there other tints that I don't know about that would be better than these 3?
Multiple opinions would be welcome. Thanks again

So you wouldn't recommend getting 20% tint? I have been looking at a few pictures and I feel like the 30% tint is too light...does anyone have a pic of 30% on a g37?
It also depends on your interior color. If you have a dark interior (i.e. black), 20% looks dark and will look much darker than it would on a car with tan interior. So if they are pretty strict in Cali with the tint, I would stay above 20% rather then getting a ticket for your tint.

Thanks for the pic, gmlee86. Your car looks NICE, btw; after seeing that and the opinions above, I think I might go with 30-35% after all.
Since my car's black on black, I think it might be smarter to go that route anyhow...
Any recommended tint shops in the socal area? Or should I just ask the dealer to do it (although they might be reluctant to tint the front-side windows...)?

Where in So Cal are you located? If you're near Canoga Park, or are willing to make the drive like I did, I'd recommend tintmastercity.com and ask for Matt. They did a great job on my car for $180.
1. There is a tint manufacturer called Madico which supposidly makes a tint (ceramic) almost as good as HO, for a price a little more than 3M. But, it is hard to find. Everyone who I talked to with personal experience says it is great. I couldn't find it in Phoenix, and went with 3M. We have had good experience with 3M on my wife's car and I am happy.
2. I had the 20% taken off my back window and replaced with 35% because I could not see out the rear view mirror at night. I think the combination of tinted rear view mirror, extreme slant of the rear window and dark tint made it almost impossible to see out of the rear view mirror at night. After I almost backed into a post in the dark parking garage where I work, I replaced the 20% with 35%.
