I don't think I have ever seen an LED burn out, except when explicitly trying to burn it out. I wondered about the heat generated by these arrays, and they are quite cool to the touch even after being on for a while. Long enough to have an incandescent bulb burn you. As long as the resister is holding down the current, they should run for quite a long time. We shall see.

That 12 element in the trunk without the bubble cover will probably fall out if you hit a big enough bump.

From Wikipedia

LEDs have an extremely long life span. One manufacturer has calculated the ETTF (Estimated Time To Failure) for their LEDs to be between 100,000 and 1,000,000 hours.[19] Fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about 30,000 hours, and incandescent light bulbs at 1,000-2,000 hours.

LED performance largely depends on the ambient temperature of the operating environment. Driving an LED hard in high ambient temperatures may result in overheating of the LED package, eventually leading to device failure. Adequate heat-sinking is required to maintain long life. This is especially important when considering automotive, medical, and military applications where the device must operate over a large range of temperatures, and are required to have a low failure rate.

Has anyone replaced the vanity mirror lights, and know what type of bulbs they take?

I replaced my license plate illumination with ( 2 X ) 7 element leds, and it helps immensely with the back up camera at night. Seriously.

These LED's are just plug and play? Is it as easy as replacing stock bulbs?

Yeppers, plug and play. Only problem is that you have to get the polarity correct before they will light. That comes from them being a diode. If you get them backwards it won't hurt them, they just won't work.

The smallest festoon I saw on Autolumination was the "Vanity Mini 3 LED" and it was a 31mm x 5mm. Where did you see the 29mm x 5mm. Thanks.

29x5mm was my personal measurement of the bulb i took out. My guess is the 31x5mm mini festoon should probably squeeze in and fit.. (but dont take my word for it!)
