i've seen a lot of people who go through car washes have that acid eat their wheels apart.

yea, lots of people also use wheel cleaners that are highly concentrated with oven cleaning chemicals...which is what ultimately strips off the clear and the paint...

worst case, buy an extra wheel and sell yours that are peeling... there are plenty of people that are looking to powdercoat/paint OEM wheels a different color anyways.

There's a TSB on this that tells the dealer they aren't under warrenty and it's most likely caused by the owner washing the car with detergents that errode the paint revealing the black primer underneath.

I know it's not cheap but a good set of shoes can really make this car snap, take the hint.

I'm certain this is true in some instances but I had a wheel that looked like this from day one. Noticed it when I got home with the car. Dealer replaced with no resistance or problem.

Just get them powder coated for a more durable finish. I had a set of three piece BBS wheels for my BMW refinished with powder coat over three years ago and use Easy-Off ocassionally to remove the hard to clean brake dust and grime. I am not recommending that anyone try this since Easy-Off is relatively corrosive; however, the wheels have not suffered any damage.

[QUOTE=adam;2604472]Anyone else on here with clear coat failure to rims? Just found out I have clear coat failure and the only way to get it fixed is to have them refinished which is like the last thing I wanna do...

When I bought my G the wheels were plastic dipped. When I peeled it off it took some clear coat with it.
