clear coat failure

Anyone else on here with clear coat failure to rims? Just found out I have clear coat failure and the only way to get it fixed is to have them refinished which is like the last thing I wanna do...

I guess our G's aren't all made equal or something. Some say the paint is weak and some say it's not. Just like with your rim problem too Adam. I guess not all of us have this problem, and I'm one of them. I never heard of this. Are you sure something didn't eat the finish off of it? Things like this just don't come off. Something had to take it off.

I can sell you my stock 19's if you want and mine are perfect and have been sealed with Poorboys wheel sealant. I'm getting Vossen's so I might be selling them.

What's wrong with our clearcoat? I have a 2008 and nothing seems to be wrong. I have 2 chips, one under front driver fender edge, and the other on the driver side door edge. I thought this was normal driving damage, like a small rock hitting my car and causing a chip.

It probably is, but people whine about it too much. I mean come on what do you expect a rock to do if your doing like 70 an hour on a highway and a rock comes at you...

looks like you took some harsh cleaner to the rims. that'd be my diagnosis.

If you look at the second picture. Only the bottom portion of the spoke is covered in this hazy stuff. I cleaned off the top half.

I don't understand you. If your saying this is hazy stuff and you cleaned it off on the top half, then it's not a clearcoat failure.

well...the response will seriously depend on how generous your service manager is feeling that day......

they can either:

1) replace your wheels with no questions asked or

2) argue with you till your both blue in the face (they'll say you used some wheel cleaner product and damaged your wheels or you don't know how to take care of your wheels)

i say that the dealership won't replace your wheels...your clear coming off your wheels isn't a common problem, i don't think anyone else on this forum has had an issue like that before....but you never know...good luck! just be very careful with what you say when your at the dealership....cause they'll hold you to every word that you say...one mishap and your chances of getting your wheels replaced are 0%

I cleaned off like half of it, if i try to clean off more its starting to turn black. Second pic behind the spoke you can see a pure black spot. I cleaned like half the rim it was going all well and then I got to that spot and it started to turn black so I just stopped before I could do more damage. its just that area that's turning black if I try to clean it off, majority of the rest of the rim that had that hazy stuff it got cleaned off......or well see what it looks like tomorrow maybe it could have reacted somehow by tomorrow.

Mine were doing that to in a couple of places before they found their place in the garage....The Grubbs dealership down here was reshooting them for $125 a wheel which I didn't think was bad. I had one redone after a meeting with the curb before I got my Vossen's....
