Idle surging & light flicker
Idle surging & light flicker
Hi all, I have had my 2013 Infiniti G37s for awhile. It has started doing a weird thing sometimes only...
At idle it will start surging in idle slightly up & down. Does not really register on the tachometer.
With the rhythm of the idle surge all the light on the car and flashing & pulsing at the same rhythm of the idle.
Any ideas? I have already cleaned all the battery cable areas.
Here is a link to a reddit forum with a video of the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/G37/comment...ating_on_idle/

If your symptoms match that of the video in the link you posted then likely your alternator is starting to go out.
See this thread as it basically explains what is going on.
Does the flicker vary with engine speed. In other words, if you "blip" the gas pedal does the flicker change?
I would get the alternator tested by a shop that specializes in alternators. I would not bother with any of the chain stores as their electronic gadget doesn't pass muster in my opinion. Be sure the alternator is tested for load and excessive ripple. A quality shop will do this automatically and might even offer in-house rebuild services.
Be advised, if it is the alternator, these cars get fussy with replacements. Many have had issues with aftermarket offerings from chain stores and even Rock Auto. Be sure you buy from a reputable place that offers a warranty/ exchange program.
