Where is the WEATHER INFO coming from?

2013 G37x Journey sedan w/ Navigation & Bose

I do not have a satellite radio subscription.

When I press the INFO button then WEATHER on the touchscreen I can select to see a forecast, current conditions, a weather map etc. It shows weather info, which is up to date.

Also, when there is some kind of ALERT the car's voice will notify me - typically here in Chicago I've hear "Weather Alert - Gale Warning 8 miles from current location" - this is some kind of bad weather out over lake Michigan. (I'm in Chicago) I also once heard a Tornado Warning.

Where is this weather info coming from? I'm thinking it's coming from the satellite, but I though one had to pay a monthly fee for weather info off the XM / Sirius service. Maybe weather info is free?

Your thinking is correct, it is from the XM satellite radio, regardless if you have a subscription.
