In a 2009 and prior, there is no way to control a bluetooth device from the steering wheel, nor will it show names of music on the screen, and it must be set to Aux, which is where the audio feed goes. Perhaps you have a newer model?

Yeah, that's only on 2010+ models.

Nope, sorry, your information is incorrect. I have a 2008 verified by VIN and ID plates

I think you need the navigation package in order for Bluetooth audio to function.

My recommendation would be to get an ipod touch. More recent than the classic ipod, and most were 30-pin. We still use one (circa 2008) in my wife's CX5 for audiobooks.

I thought all the iPod Touch models were firewire?

no, firewire died with the 4th or 5th gen I think. All touch models are USB over 30 pin.

I really think the best thing for his situation is a flash modded 5 or 5.5g. You can expand the storage for cheap. with an iPod touch the best he's going to get is 32 or maybe 64gb. My modded 5.5g has 256gb on an SD card.

True. I only ever have about 30gb of music on my device at any time (usually audiobooks since I stream music) so I hadn’t thought about it.

My bad, I was thinking "lightening" connector and typed firewire. I've never seen a touch with a 30 pin however

You beat me to it. I dug out my first iPod from the dungeon of my closet. I won this as a door prize at a Semicon show way back when. Still works but God is it small (32MB)

Just an update-
I did go the route of purchasing a 5th gen used unit that was upgraded by the vendor to a 64GB SSD and new battery for $75+$5.50 on Ebay. It arrived quickly and works perfectly. Vendor name is "daleipodtouch" https://www.ebay.com/str/jasonipods

And not to bead a dead horse, but I have a USA 2009 G37S with nav/Bose, there is no way to pair bluetooth for music to the factory system directly. Period. It connects for phone calls ONLY. Anyone that claims otherwise is confused or changed out their head unit or something. The only option is to use a dongle into AUX, which is extremely limited.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got the rig working the way you like it.
Yeah, that was pretty early in Bluetooth implementation so I guess they decided it was only meant to be for hands-free phone use. A bit shortsighted.

Aux for 2009 Sedan

I don’t think 2009 sedan comes with a USB PORT.
Also has anyone tried the 30-pin to lightings cable for aux input? Is it really works and does it support a video output?
thanks. And also link where to buy will be helpful.

Sorry, I need to correct myself- it has a lighter plug in which I put a dual USB port charger.

I have a 2009 Journey S Nav/Bose sedan and It has analog RCA video and stereo analog RCA in, a 30 pin ipod connector, and a lighter 12v port in the armrest. Also has a completely useless CompactFlash card port on the dash (which can only handle X number of files in X number of directories, and X total storage space, all of which X is way too small to be useful to me even when new). One or more of the ports might be part of the Nav and/or Bose system options. Not sure, I bought mine utterly/fully loaded (moving headlights, laser-guided cruise, heated mirrors and seats, 8-way driver seat with adjustable bolsters and leg and lumbar, homeconnect, fog lights, bluetooth [phone calls only], voice commands, large wheels/brakes, metal pedals, leather seats, etc).

Also has anyone tried the 30-pin to lightings cable for aux input? Is it really works and does it support a video output?

I believe I researched that already and the answer was no, it doesn't work at all. It is hard-coded to only a certain set of generations of ipods.

Video input is only analog via RCA jack, and will only display if the screen is set to Aux AND the car is not moving (I think the transmission needs to be in park). Expanding that functionality requires a physical wiring modification to override the "park" signal.

The analog in, however, will play, regardless of what you have on the screen, as long as the input was set to AUX. Any NAV audio will overlay it. Any phone call audio will override it.
