Mid March Update:
In the first version of the code, I was sending data to the gauges 2x per second which resulted in sluggish gauges.
Now the gauges get data 10x per second and the gauges respond almost instantly!

I've been adding some additional features.
For example, if the throttle is 80% or more, the display will automatically switch to the gauges screen. I'm not sure if this is a useful feature or just irritating to always have to switch back. Road testing will give me an idea of how useful this is.

Anyways, I hope to have an update video out by the end of the week and will show all.
In the meantime, here is a picture from a road test yesterday:

So awesome! Lots of progress. It's too bad I will never get to try it out on my G.

Thank you... but you could always buy a winter beater G37 and keep the S5 in top shape!

June Update:
It has been a while since the last update and I have a lot to update you on.

GTR Gauges for the G37:
The GTR gauges have been working very well, not a single issue.
The next step is to finalize the hardware, get a few boards made and test locally (Toronto area)
This will work on every 2010+ G37 with navigation and a USB port.

I'm thinking of adding a SD card, as that would allow a lot of data to be logged and analyzed later.
(corning g force, brake line pressure, individual wheel speed, throttle position, steering wheel angle, coolant temp, engine oil temp and engine oil pressure are on my short list)

Tire Pressure Display:
In the next few days, I'll be posting a video of how you can enable real time tire pressure display from the Info > Tire Pressure menu. It requires a $15 USB A to A cable, a laptop and about 3 minutes!
This has nothing to do with the GTR gauges and will work on every 2010+ G37 with navigation, USB port and functioning TPMS sensors. It should also work on the 370, but haven't tested it yet. (need Toronto area volunteer)

The tire pressure display IS NOT THE NICE GTR one
(The nice GTR pressure display requires a different data format that is not compatible with the G37)

It is an ugly stacked list and the pressures do not have labels showing which pressure is from which tire.
However, the list of pressures is easy to remember. Just think about getting out of the driver's seat to check pressures. You would probably check front left, front right, rear right and then rear left and that is exactly how the list is sorted!

I've been using it for the last few weeks (needed to replace/program new TPMS sensors, which will be a future episode) and it works without any issues.

Audio/Video AUX IN:
Using a similar process as enabling the TPMS menu, AUX IN can be enabled for video and audio. It will work on every 2010+ G37 with navigation and a USB port.
All will be shown in a future episode as I need time test the cables I made yesterday.
If all goes well, I'll look into getting some custom cables made. This will be plug and play and no cutting or wiring will be required. Dash disassembly is required which it is fairly easy and no special tools are needed.

NOTE: The screen resolution is not very high at around 640 x 480 as it uses composite video (aka CVBS)
However, with a $40 Wifi to composite video box, you can share you phone screen on the AUX IN display and that should be mostly readable.
I will be testing later today will let me know how useful this is.

Bluetooth Oil Pressure Gauge (aka Bluetooth Sensor Server)
This is used with the GTR gauges and allows a quick install of any oil pressure sensor WITHOUT any wiring going through the firewall.
The oil pressure sensor connects to a small box under the hood. This provides power to the sensor, reads it and sends the data out on Bluetooth to the GTR gauges module or the upcoming mini-dash.
Also, it connects automatically in less than a second!

It only needs two wires.... ground and ignition power! AND those are easily available from the IPDM/ER module by the battery.

This module can support up to 8 sensors. For the last year it has been tested on my G37 for engine oil pressure, fuel pressure, manual transmission oil temp and differential oil temp.
It has been working very well and connects every time!

DIY Kits
My plan is to make DIY kits that you can easily build yourself, without any special tools.
The ultimate goal is not to require soldering, but I'm not sure how well that will work with the temperature swings and vibration of the automotive environment.

Anyways, that's all for now.

I'd be OK soldering, although larger surface mount chips do better with reflow than hand solder, even with the SM gear.

Beta tester right here

While I followed iCraps adventure with full screen replacement and the arduino setup, all I'd really like are gauges and apple carplay (which I can buy a module that does ONLY that for fairly cheap). TPMS would be nice too.

Man I would love to get in on this but I'm about as far south as you can get without going swimming. If you need it tested in an area with crazy high humidity, temps over 90 pretty regularly and an idiot who travels an old backroad between 75 and 120 mph Monday-Friday in a 13 g37s 6mt sedan....ill pay shipping lol.

Here is what I am thinking of doing... A DIY kit where you can buy the cheap modules from anywhere and assemble it.
The only soldering would be something like soldering an ESP32 30 pin module, MCP2515 CAN bus module, DC to DC module to a custom circuit board you buy from me.
I might offer a pre-built unit, as some may like that option.

Anyways, for now I need to test locally in case issues pop up. BUT I will keep you in mind when for the next stage of testing

Lightbulb Want this in my life

Curious if theres any pricing info yet?

For what its worth - not sure if a "plug in" kit would be an option to avoid any DIY assembly but I would be definitely interested.

Re: switching to gauge view - any way to tie that in to an external signal? IE, when I switch off the power from my accelerometer to truly disable traction control, I have that through a SPDT on-off-on switch. That power could be a signal to the display to kick over to gauges.

No idea on pricing yet, as I have a lot to figure out. Hardware needs to be finalized, manufactured and tested.

When I know more, I'll let everyone know

Right now 80% throttle will automatically switch to the GTR gauges, but an external input could easily be added.

Glad to hear it. I go 80% often (usually to merge and avoid being made paste by large trucks) but otherwise want to drive normal. The input signal = track mode will likely be just for that, autocross or HPDE.
