Losing Audio/Display Settings

I just picked up a 2009 G37 Sedan with no nav today. On the way home, I played with a couple settings on the radio and parked it. When I went back out, I noticed they were gone along with the brightness and other small tweaks that I'd made. It starts fine and the clock keeps time just fine as well.

I just want to make sure there's no dumb thing I'm missing (it doesn't have presets and I don't see anywhere to pair the key with the current settings) and that this is some issues with the wiring/battery/etc. before I take it back in.

I'm having a similar issue with a 2009 G37 sedan non-nav with Bose I purchased. If I set presets they are gone each time I start the car. Also, the car always starts at Preset C setting and on the same station regardless of where I left it. Not sure whats going on....

That’s exactly what mine is doing as well - Preset C, minimum bass, random stations.

Yup. It's always like 96.3 for me. If I figure it out I will let you know

Appreciated and likewise!!

I've checked every fuse in the two fuse panels in the engine bay and the one inside - even the ones that have nothing to do with the audio - all look good.

Has anyone with this issue even tried to access the self-diagnostic function of the AV system to see if there are any error codes listed?

A quick search within this forum will show you how to access this function. JUST DO NOT RESET ANYTHING WHEN YOU ARE DONE.

Plz, advise accordingly.

TBH, I was a little nervous about trying that since so many seemed to have made their own issues worse.

I'll give it a go tonight after work and report back.

Just DO NOT press any button to reset the system and you will be fine. When you are done, keep pressing the BACK button until you exit. If it asks to reset, NO!

So, I went into and out of the menu three or four times. No luck - there are no error codes and the diagnostic came back all OK. After each time, I changed the settings and tried turning it back off and on, and it cleared.

BUT, some additional info... It looks like it clears the settings on boot. The reason why I say that is if I turn the car off, but don’t get out of the car, the settings stay as the Infiniti boot screen doesn’t come up. If I get out of the car with the car off, I lose them. I also lose them if I go into and out of the diagnostic menu, car still ON. So, my theory of “it’s losing the constant power” is wrong, but that matches the fact that there are no fuses blown.

The siren song of Initialize Settings was almost too much...

And thoughts?

If there are no error codes than our diagnostic options are limited. After doing a web search, it appears this issue is very common across all Nissan models and the only repair is to replace the headunit.

It would seem that the headunit is not saving the configuration (either to hard drive or flash memory).

If everything else works fine I would leave it alone. Just my 10¢. Wish I had better suggestions...

I would NOT recommend you reset the system- as tempting as that Siren song may be. But, it is your car and you are free to do as you will. Worst case scenario you have to take it to the dealer for reprogramming/replacement ($$$).

Nah, I gotcha. It was mostly a joke just because - like you said - everything else works. It definitely likes to be at operating temperature before starting out, so in the minute or two that takes, I can have the EQ and input set the way I want.

Honestly, it's somewhat of a relief as well, since I'm more ok with a busted head unit than roached wiring. I was looking at one of those complete replacements from Phoenix Automotive because I'd rather drop the $400 on that than reprogramming/replacing the existing head unit.

Frankly, its got a boatload of miles and I didn't pay much for it... so I'm accepting of some issues and less interested in dropping too much on fixes.

Anyway... Thanks for the help and the encouragement!!

I had the same problem with my 09 sedan and never really found a fix but I did find a work around that seemed to work sometimes.

Set up your EQ
Turn the radio on/off a few times.
Change the input to something different than what it was initially set to when you set the EQ(Aux/FM/CD).
Change the EQ
Turn the radio Off/On once or twice
Set the EQ back to your preferences
Turn the radio Off/On
Go back to your original input
Turn the car Off/On

I'm not sure why this works but if you follow the steps the changes to the EQ/Presets will be saved about 60% of the time

I really don't know why it works but I'm glad it worked for you too. I noticed that every now and then the radio would save my EQ/Presets, so one day I sat in the car and made small intentional changes until I found a way to save changes somewhat reliably.

It appears to have worked for my car as well. Thanks a lot man. Random but there is something that works with it. Appreciate the reply
