2012 Infiniti G37 Coupe Map Update

Hello All,

I attempted to do the map update on my g37 and something went wrong. I keep getting an error message telling me that I need to insert disk 1 with the updates and when I do the same error message applies. I want to know if there’s anyway to power reset the navigation and start all over? I’ve attached the error message as an attachment so you all can see. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Error message

Did you buy the update DVD set directly from Infiniti? If so, I would contact them and explain the problem to them.

There is a "User Data/Accessory Number Initialization" setting within the System Diagnostic Menu, HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Many have tried this reset on their own and have had several problems as a result.

If you bought the set legitimately contact Infiniti. If you bought it "on the low" you can try the reset as a last resort.

Just my 10¢.

Navigation update

Yes I bought from Infiniti directly. Also, I tried to call them but they couldn’t help me. They told me to take it to Infiniti directly, but I was trying to save the 150 dollar diagnostic fee if I could figure it out myself

Personally, I would not accept that as a viable response/resolution. You purchased a product that failed to perform as intended and caused a problem with your system. You are entitled to receive a working unit (+ the update that you paid for) and/or receive some compensation to get it in working order. I would push the matter with Infiniti and register a dispute with the credit card issuer as well.

That said, the diagnostic menu is entered by:
1. Start(ing) the engine;
2. Turn the audio system OFF;
3. While pressing the SETTING button turn the VOLUME dial (either direction) for 40 or more clicks (you'll hear a beep).

From there: CONFIRMATION/ADJUSTMENT -> INITIALIZE SETTINGS -> USER DATA INITIALIZATION

Again, I would NOT recommend doing this and there is no guarantee this will fix your problem- in fact it could make things worse and I am not responsible as such.

I would still push the issue with Infiniti and force them to make things right. It was their "defective" update that created this headache...

Good luck!

Is it possible the OP received a damaged set of disks. The disks are standard data disks and should be readable in a pc.

I'd try copying the contents of each disk (esp disk 1) to a pc in its entirety to see if it'll copy.

Is the unit stuck on that screen after a power cycle or other functions in the car/display do work?

The screen stays up but it only lets me listen to the radio. Won’t even let me go on settings or anything anymore. Attempts to connect to Bluetooth but never connects.

There are any number of potential causes why the update failed: bad disks, damaged/scratched/smudged disks, incorrectly formatted/encoded disks (remember, disk 1 is coded (by Infiniti) to the NAV serial number and VIN of the OP's car), headunit error, updater/operator error, etc.

Being this issue was caused directly as a result of the update set, OP should not have to pay a additional fee to the dealer to troubleshoot/repair. I wouldn't. Either refund my money or arrange for the dealer to diagnose/repair the unit.

As a last resort I would dispute the charge and use the money spent for the update set (approx. $120?) to put toward the dealers "diagnostic" fee. Unless OP is able to find a way to successfully update the NAV system.

Good luck OP. You can try the reset but I am not too confident it will help in this case.

Thank goodness I never use the damn NAV thing...

I actually took a risk and did the reset myself however this time I made some progress. My Bluetooth seems to be working now. This time I got a different error message. Has anyone seen the attached error message before? I was planning on reaching out to the Navi help tomorrow to see if they are familiar with this message or send me a new disk. Thanks for your help everyone!

Before I click dvd update

After I click dvd update

I'll be willing to wager they sent you a bad disk.

If I press back it still says “map read data error”. Yea I agree I think it’s a bad disk, but we will see what happens. I’ll keep everyone posted on the final result.

I had a similar problem, and kept redoing what it was telling me to, just inserting disk 1 again and again and it finally worked.

If it's indeed a bad disk, you can email 'em to send you replacement.
