2009 G37x radio issues

I've been having some radio issues since purchasing my G37. It has Premium Sound, Bose system with Navigation. The over-the-air radio stations pop in and out randomly, sometimes when I hit a bump (I know, sounds strange) and sometimes just for no apparent reason. I've also noticed that when I get about 15 miles from the radio station, it also fades out. All of my other car radios can pick up the same stations for 50-75 miles away. Is the Infinity tuner prone to these types of issues? Any idea where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance.

Do all of your other audio sources sound normal (ie. CD, XM, voice guidance)?

Assuming all of your audio sources work normally (except for AM/FM), the likely culprit is the AM/FM antenna amplifier. Unfortunately the FSM does not offer any troubleshooting advice for the amp- just replace.

I would check all of the connections from the antenna to the headunit. Refer to the FSM for your car to help locate the amp and wiring. You could have a loose wiring connection or bad ground (as you mentioned hitting bumps).

If nothing else there are used antenna amps on eBay for around $20. Again, this assumes all other audio functions work normally.

Thanks for the reply, all other sources, including voice command, work well. I assumed it may be the antenna amplifier, but since I am not familiar with this vehicle, I thought I would throw the question out. I have checked all of the connections behind the dash, and all seem to be solid. I'll check the service manual for location of the antenna amplifier.

Hope you get it sorted. It is rare for the antenna amp to kick the bucket, but it is the only culprit I can think of. Fortunately it is a inexpensive gamble. Please keep is updated.

Good luck!

Just opened the AV section of the FSM... 643 pages long, looks like I'll need a pot of coffee to get through this section.

Thanks again.

There are 3 sections. Just focus on the last section (BOSE with NAV).

Are there any tricks to removing the pillar "garnish"? I'm trying not to break it.

Those trim pieces can be a royal nuisance. Just make sure you use some plastic pry tools and work the clips. Some are tougher than others but they will pop out. Pull as close to the clip as you can and you should be okay. I always use a putty knife wrapped in electrical tape and use that- the metal has way more leverage in my opinion.

I was using a plastic putty knife and and automotive trim removal tool. I got the piece partway off, but it was being stubborn. I'll work at it again tonight. Thanks.

It might be a good idea to check the INT (INTERIOR) section of the FSM if the trim piece is being exceptionally stubborn. There might be some additional pointers in removing the little devil.

I was reading through that section, last night. I'll read it again before attempting.
