2013 g37 Sedan, Upgrade to NAV

OK, I am fairly versed in the car audio world, just need some help here. I have a 2013 g37 (Wife's car). She want bluetooth audio streaming (not capable in non NAV system). The radio seems to consist of 4 components, the main assembly (with plastic module on top), AC control panel, Bezel with Nav controls, and screen. Since having NAV is a non-issue (google maps does great), if I were to change the main assembly with a NAV unit only and not the Bezel (NAV controls), AC controls, and Screen.... would that give me BT audio streaming? If I were to want NAV... I would just need to replace the control bezel? If so, would I need to add a GPS antenna? Looking at non NAV and NAV units on ebay (picture details) they seem to take all the same harness plug ins. Anyone done this by chance?

Yes it has been done. Is it plug-and-play, NO. All 3 components (headunit, NAV switch assy. and the HVAC/clock switch panel) will have to swapped out- the display should be fine. You will NOT want to touch that white module mounted on the headunit. Some of the wiring will have to be reworked/deleted/added. A GPS antenna would be required if you wanted NAV.

Is it worth the hassle and expense just for BT? Not in my opinion. It is not even worth it for NAV. I did the swap for other reasons and, while relatively easy for me, the swap can be VERY tedious and intimidating for some. A search through the threads will yield several alternative options for adding BT.

IMO it's not worth it unless you upgrade to a new aftermarket nav. Our whole nav unit really sucks.

I suggest searching for an alternative option for adding BT as well.

Going to post my reply several places for people. It would have helped me a week ago. Check my post history if links don't work.

As has been said multiple times already, the USB3 GROM unit from GROMAudio is the best way to go. They currently have a sale going on for $15 off as well with the code in their banner.

I just finished installing mine today. It was relatively painless after figuring everything out, except that I was unlucky and ran into several issues. I can now fully disassemble my center console/dash and put it back together in 20 minutes, hah.

GROM Unit (double check your year and model with their guide and everything)

Installation guide:
INFINITI G37 WITHOUT NAV 2012: GROM-BT3 Bluetooth Hands Free and A2DP Car Kit Installation

Just an FYI, several things went wrong with mine because it's a 2013 and apparently that year randomly causes issues, along with one other model vehicle...go figure.

Just remember to disconnect the XM tuner (antenna AND white power connector) in the trunk. There is a random chance that you will have to ground one of the connector's return wires as well, which caused a major headache. Additionally, there is a 50/50 chance that you will have to connect the spare female adapter on the supplied cable to the factory male end (once again, headache). Finally, I happened to get a unit that was shipped the same day as a major firmware update and had to flash the firmware (which was extremely painless since I ran the USB extender to my center console).

Feel free to ask for help if anyone runs in to issues. Their tech support is great as well if you want to go that route.
