Swap out 2009 AV unit?

I have 2009 g37 with nav. I know this is extremely petty but l want to swap out my my 2009 AV unit for a 2010 AV unit or later. Mainly for the additional Bluetooth functionality (i.e play music) and other bells & whistles. Has anyone done this before? Is this even feasible?

Yeah I know I can buy Bluetooth adapters but I'm sick of those at this point. Help?

From what I have seen, it seems like the cost isnt worth it. You can get a Grom (or similar kit) for phone connectivity and it plugs in the back of the head unit. Other wise the Nexus 7 mod or prodigy one mod seems to be better for benefits to cost ratio.

It has been done. It is easiest if going from a '09 with nav and bose to a '10+. You will need to do a complete rewire/pin of your AV harness (6 total pigtails I think), you will need to source or make a USB cable and make sure you get the RGB digital cable for the new display or you will need to make one of those as well. Both the Digital RGB cable and USB cable you can source the pigtails easily and make your own if you cant find them. If you do this I would aim for pre-2013 as they did away with the musicbox feature after that year (might have been 2012, can't recall). If that's not your cup of tea then I wouldn't care which year you sourced. You will also have to do a rewire in your trunk as you will no longer need your camera control module as the new AV unit handles that.

All in all its a lot of custom wiring and swapping wires in pigtails. Personally I think it's worth it as your display is a hell of a lot nicer and you get bluetooth perks. If you can source the parts needed for a price you feel is fair and are savvy with doing electrical then I say go for it. If not, I don't know if you should risk it as a DIY, and I'm sure a A/V place will charge more then your first born child to do it for you.
