Great, Keg! you won't be disappointed. I'm loving the sound and overall clarity of my overhauled system. was definitely worth the time. Let us know how your project goes, and be sure to post up any questions that you may have.

Sweet install! Are you running an additional amp to the center speaker or do you notice that the sound produced is lower than the original Bose?

I am wondering because I believe the original Bose center channel is a 2 ohm impedance, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks. Yeah, I pulled the bose amp, and all of the bose speakers. My center channel and L/R midrange/tweeters are being driven by a RF PB300x4. Small footprint, more than enough power for those speakers.

Here is another thought. I took my center channel speaker and haven't replaced it. Now I get a better right/left dispersion from the front speakers. I'm leaning towards not replacing the center speaker right now.

I'm simply amazed at how easy it is to replace this speaker. the original looks like crap.

I really wish the material quality they chose was a little nicer. I personally don't like paper at all, and prefer polypropelene or other synthetic plastic like material. Can I assume that all the speakers in the system are of this general quality?

Are you using the stock Bose head unit? If so, when you removed your Bose amp and speakers how did you hook up the new amps? Im trying to use my Bose head unit with new amps and speakers and was told by a shop they had to keep my Bose amp installed to tap the outputs for the new Amps. Didnt make sense to me. Cant you just tap off the outputs of the Bose head unit?

Yep, I still have the stock bose head unit. I removed the bose amp and tapped the signal from the head unit at the b41 harness, which would connect to the bose amp in the trunk. I ran the front and rear outputs into my ms8 sound processor, and then from the ms8 into my amps. I would try to find a different shop.

Did you tap it close to the head unit, or back where the Bose amp is (or in your case, was)? Also, is the ms8 sound processor similar to a LOC? In other words, why is the ms8 needed? Im not that savvy on car audio as my electronics experience is strictly aviation based (and computers).

I tapped it in the trunk, where the bose amp was. All I did was disconnect the harnesses from the amp, remove the amp and solder all of my wires into the harnesses. The ms8 is not needed, but I installed it to give me some tuning & EQ options. I ran the front and rear line level outputs into it, and the ms8 takes those signals and creates up to 8 outputs for you ("logic 7" surround processing), which you can customize in the setup. The ms8 has its own multi channel amp built in, but I opted to use separate amps as the ms8 doesn't push out much power. The 'Audison' line of processors is also common here. While the ms8 does have hi level inputs, an LOC isn't needed with the bose setup, as the outputs from the bose head unit are already pretty clean, line level signals.

Thanks for all this information. As for EQ options, I am considering Cleansweep. For starters I think I am going to just get the front components (JL C5's or Diamond Audio DE652) and some 6x9's to replace the Bose. I will have them install my sub amp and wiring but I may not have the box/woofer at time of install since I cannot locate on I want yet. I will have JL 300/4v3 amp for the front/rears. If I do not install any EQ or signal processor/loc, it should be simple enough to do later since all the wiring needed to install that would be done in the trunk, right? I will have a 1 F capacitor installed also to ensure uninterrupted power to the amps (900 watts total for both).

Yep, once you've spliced in your RCA's from the bose HU, you can pretty much do as you please. If you choose to add a processor later on, it'll just be a matter of hooking up a +12v, remote and ground, and hooking the processor up to your amps. Everything will be done in the trunk.

I am thinking a processor is going to happen sooner than later. Friend at work told me about hearing an Alpine PXA-700 (was a while ago, new one is PXA-h800) in a car and was absolutely blown away. Its pricey but what you can do with it is simply amazing. Its making me think I want to upgrade the center speaker and may have to add another amp or find a 6 channel one.
