Bluetooth phone question

When I get a call in the car from a phone contact I only get the number displayed on the screen. Not the contact name as I have on my phone. Is there a setting to have it display the names in my phone book when they call & not just he number? Most of the time I have no idea who it is by just he number.
My $40 portable unit in my 20 year old truck displays the names....

And you used the "download phonebook" feature? I know mine was like that when I just recently bought my car. I ended up having to remove old bluetooth connections from the previous owner and then re-added my phone and then did the "download phone book" and the names have been showing up... You probably already tried that though... outside of that, I'm not sure as I've only had the car for a week lol. Just thought I'd throw that out there though just in case.

I see the option to download phone book, but then it says to download phone book with code 1234 & just an ok. But nothing happens....It's a iPhone5. Does it not work with that?

ohh, i didn't even ask you what type of phone you had. I'm doing this with an Android (S4) and it worked okay. hmmm

What year if your car? Reading through some other threads, people are saying the dealership has a "software" update to take care of iPhone 5 issues. Maybe you need an update?

This one seems to have been fixed after a software update:

This is an older model/older phone, but the workaround this guy used was pretty extreme in my opinion... maybe worth a shot as well?

I would definitely see if a software update can fix your problem though before anything else.

That's some good info! Never read that before. My phone seems to connect just fine though. Works fine, just the downloading of the phone book doesn't seem to work. I don't think I'm going to take it in though. Not worth the hassle the dealer gives me. They do anything they cab to get out of fixing stuff.. It's a PITA.

So funny thing... I thought my android (s4) downloaded the contacts just fine... but it definitely didn't... i can't get mine to download the phone book either... and i was thinking to visit the dealer, but then my dad made a nice comment which i liked... he said "who cares, why do you want your contacts stored in your car anyway" and i said "you know what, good point"... if the car was to ever get stolen or anything, the bandit would just have a lot more info at their disposal if they wanted to use it... i'm okay with it just showing up on my phone. Not to mention, what if i'm sitting in the car and I don't want passengers to see who's calling... so I am going to just turn off the download phonebook feature (not like it works) and just be okay with it the way it is. Now i'm kinda glad it doesn't work lol.

Having the name on my phone is good enough for me! And just like you said, audio and phone work just fine through bluetooth...

The Android phones have a feature that will transfer the phone book over bluetooth. The iPhone and iOS devices do not have this feature, which is why you can't download the phonebook from an iPhone.

Also, not that it really matters, but the phonebook stored in your car is tied directly to the phone linked with the car. I'm pretty sure this means that if you were to leave your phone at home (it's not around to connect to the car over bluetooth), then you would not see any of the phonebook entries that are stored in the car. Even though they're stored in the car storage, they're not accessible unless the phone that those contacts are tied to is connected to the car. So, if someone stole your car they could not see any of your contact data unless you also left your phone in the car when they stole it. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Good point. I could try that to test it out.

Also with the android, I was messing with bluetooth transfer apps and was unsuccessful when I tried. If that's what you meant by other features..

Well when making a call it asks for handset phone book or car phone book. There's nothing in the car phone book when I try I have to say handset phone book to get any numbers.

Another reason to hate the iPhone....I can't wait till my job's email system supports droid. I miss my droid so much!

You have to manually add the contacts to the car since the iPhone won't transfer them over.

I tried several times to download my address book from my Galaxy 4 to the car with no luck.
I deleted my phone and reconnected it because I read on line that a prompt would appear on the screen asking if I wanted to download the address book, when I connected a new phone. I saw no prompt.

What I have been doing is going into settings then phone then add the address book. I get a message about the 1234 pin and at the bottom there is only one selection, which is highlighted and it says "Done".

My phone doesn't go to any screen where I have a numerical keypad to punch in the 1234. It does when I connect the phone, but not when I am trying to add the address book. I wait awhile and hit the DONE button. Then it gives a prompt that says I might not be able to use the phone for awhile, so I wait a few minutes and check and the address book is still empty.
The closest Infiniti dealer is 50 miles away.

The Infiniti dealer isn't going to do anything for you. If anything they'll just try to perform the transfer for you, which is nothing more than what you can do yourself.

You have to go into the phone/contacts app, once the car displays the code, and tell the phone to transfer the contacts. The phone won't pop-up the code request by itself. I found this in another thread:

https://www.myg37.com/forums/audio-v...ml#post3071802

There's also a chance that Android changed the way this works. If that's the case, Infiniti is not going to waste the time to go back and update the car firmware for this to work again with the Android changes, so you're on your own.

BTW- I don't have an Android phone, so have never done this. Just trying to help you out, so I'm not sure what results you'll get. Good luck!
