There are known issues with iOS 8.x and Bluetooth (i.e. secure pairing).

Mine was not working either on my iphone 6+ I was able to get it going by these steps:
1.) turn off wifi and bluetooth (I had to turn off wifi as well for it to work weird)
1a.) Do a factory reset. NOT the ERASE
1b.) Turn off wifi and bluetooth again
2.) Delete the phone from the car. I did not have to delete the others.
3.) Turn car off AND open your door.
4.) Close door and start car or turn car to on or acc position (just so radio is on)
5.) Go to the settings add bluetooth phone.
6.) Turn phone's bluetooth on and pair the phone
7.) Then switch to audio to do streaming audio.

I am a newbie here as I just bought a 2011 G37 Convertible yesterday and my iPhone 5 phone audio was horrible with Bluetooth. I goggled numerous sites and found there was a Tech Bulletin that covered my vehicle (by VIN) and I just called the dealer and scheduled an appointment to reprogram the "Multi-AV (with NAVI) system" tech bulletin was found here: http://www.infinitig37.com/TSB/ITB11-040b.pdf

Hopefully it will fix it!

Have you guys let Apple know there is an issue?
https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I did, but hopefully if enough people submit an issue, they will fix it. This seems to effect more than Infiniti. I've seen people with Honda and BMW issues as well.

I can skip to the next song, but I can't navigate from my car and play a song or playlist.
I have to play the song from my phone.

While searching the Apple support forums, I found someone mention that Apple suggested resetting the network settings, even though we are discussing USB and not Bluetooth.
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
I'll try when I go to lunch to see if that helps. I'm not expecting much, though.
Unfortunately, that reset all of my wifi connections.

Resetting the network settings worked for me.
Everything seems to work as it did before iOS 8 when using the usb connection.
I can now Navigate from my car instead of having to press play from my phone.

What do you mean by "network settings"?

"Resetting network settings deletes lists of previously used VPN settings and Wi-Fi networks, except for those VPN settings installed by a configuration profile."
The instructions are in my previous post.
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings

is anyone else having issues with bluetooth intermittently cutting in and out? once and a while it'll completely disconnect from bluetooth and wont let me repair the connection unless i turn the car's bluetooth off and back on again.

only happens when audio streaming.

I have a 2011 G37S paired with an iPhone 6+ w/ iOS8.1. I had a 4s and the bluetooth was clear as could be. I updated to the 6+ and couldn't hear over the crackles. I had the dealer apply soldierboystim's ITB and everything is clear agin.

Thanks solderboytim!

Yep. I have this problem and all the other issues mentioned. iPhone 4S with the latest update.

I noticed I can play iPod music from the steering wheel and/or nav controls unless I select a playlist or podcast. Then I need to press play on the phone.

Hey all, sorry for the inactivity. I haven't tried resetting network settings, but I've tried restoring to factory settings and resetting the phone. If I reset the phone using the Home & Power buttons, the phone will work for a short time. Restoring to factory settings did not END the problem. Similarly, the phone functioned for a short time, but the same problem repeated shortly thereafter.
