Home link problem

So the first step is to hold down the 1st and 3rd buttons for 20 seconds until the light blinks red. The problem is the light stays a solid red, even after holding it for a minute. Is this because I don't have the home link option?

Check out the manual

Hit Ctrl+F, and type in homelink.
Are you sure that your garage door is compatible?

I cant even get pass the first step, so I dont think that compatibility is the issue. The first step is only suppose to clear the memory. The actual programing does come in until the 2nd step.
