G37 sedan mid/tweeter upgrade

Guys,

I'm looking to replace my mid-range/tweeter combo with a more neutral sounding speaker but maintain the stock amps. Can you recommend the sizes and brands that will fit this criteria? I primarily listen to classical music which includes, Cello, Spanish Guitar and Violins.

Thanks,
Ron

do you have the Bose set up in your car?
Bose speakers are 2ohm.

Non bose are 4 ohm.

either way find some efficient speakers. Id say 92db and up would be good.
This basically means the speaker will get louder with low amounts of power.

Thanks for the reply. They are Bose, do you know the size of the tweeter and midrange?

Thanks,
Ron

When I inquired at music places to upgrade the speakers, the one thing we determined is, it's gonna cost. You will need a signal processor first and foremost and being an audiophile and talking with a Nissan engineer is that dead space you're hearing is the difference between the 3in midrange and the 10in woofer in the door. You should look at replacing the 10 first IMO and for the others if you're not looking at focal or comparable speakers and amp you're wasting time

John B,

I'm an audiophile myself and have a killer home system with a VAC tube amplifier at the heart of my system. The Bose are horrible and I'll look into those Focal 10" first, just want better sound...

Thanks,
Ron

Always wanted tube amplification but for ow ill stick with Lexicon. I don't think you can replace the 10' with another because of the shallow mounting depth. I believe you will have to make a mount for 6 1/2 or 6 3/4 to go in place instead. If you get a good speaker with the correct ohm impedance then add a small subwoofer you may be in business. Don't know if you can do it with the stock amp but a signal processor like the JBL clean sweep with give you more control with adjustability

you will need an apater like this for the mid/sub

PVC Speaker Adapters - CNC Machined - In Stock or Custom Made

and this for the tweeter

PVC Speaker Adapters - CNC Machined - In Stock or Custom Made

I have ordered from the site before. Great products.

if you just want a speaker swap this is all you need besides your new mids.

I would get a sound processor, new amp(s), subs.
The bose amp is the part that is making everything sound so....blah

Not necessarily, I know Rockford makes a slim mount 10" sub that works and there are several others around. What do they sound like??? Like a 10" speaker in a relatively un-baffled enclosure. Then again, I haven't run across another install (10" or 6") that truly sounded much better unless the installer built out the door panel and sealed the back of the woofer enclosure. If you have a processor with Audyssey or your good at tuning your system, you can cover the hole between the mid-bass and the sub fairly well.

The 6" - 6.5" option will give you more choices though which usually sways people in the end

I saw another thread saying that the Bose speakers are 1 ohm, not 2. I have a 2009 Coupe w/ Bose. I see the OP has a 2010. Did the ohms change in models after 2010?

Just be careful as some mentioned as the efficiency of the speakers can cause a difference in loudness among the drivers without any way to tune it, unless you wanted to add more aftermarket gear. OHM load is critical.
