Non Apple mp3 player connected to G37

I appologize if this is a common question, I did a search and did not find the answer.

I have a new to me 2008 G37s coupe. It has a dongle in the console to connect an Apple iPod. The connection is the old Apple 30 pin. I have an mp3 player that has the mini USB connection on it. I bought an adapter from 30 pin to mini USB, but the car did not recognize the mp3 player. I guess I could go on fleabay and buy an older used iPod, but is there a reasonable way to connect my mp3 player and have the car radio keep it charged so I don't have to bring it back in the house?

that type of adapter wont work. if your car has the rca's below the ipod connector then you can that for your mp3 player. but it wont charge it.

Such a stupid design. I hate apple. I have a samsung note 2 tab which i would love to be able to hook up in my car. Considering that there are more droids out there than apple ios phones these situations have always perplexed me to why a manufacturer would limit itself.

I got the iPod and a sync cable. Downloaded iTunes and loaded my music on the iPod. I hooked it up in the car and with the help of the manual (which isn't much help) I have it playing my tunes with a shuffle. WooHoo!

I was surprised to see that the "Disc" button is what you push to get the iPod operating, not "Aux".
