This is what I had in my Cobra in 2009, you could buy the current version for around $400 brand new today

Alpine MRP-M500
Alpine SWR-1042D

This is the current setup I have in my Monte Carlo; again you could get the current version for around $400 brand new today.

Alpine MRP-M500
Rockford Fosgate P3D412

FWIW, I've had a 2-12" system w/1000 watts RMS. Its really unnecessary because you never use 50% percent of the power unless in competition or showing it off. For that reason, all of my systems since then have been 1-10" woofer pushing 400-500 watts RMS. One setup had a sealed box, and other was in a ported box. Both provide more than enough deep bass for me. $800 will go pretty far a nice amp/sub combo today; I would just suggest you also budget for a capacitor, especially if you're not going to run a Class-D amp.

Just bought a Alpine type-r 12 (1000 Watt rms) and mrv 500 Alpine amp (500 rms) with a ported q-logic box all for 310 and brand new. 800 should get you some really high end equipment.

I would highly recommend going to DIYMA website, they will have some great audio advice. Really depends what you are going for, SPL, SQ?

I want something simple and that doesn't eat up a ton of trunk space. Thoughts on this:
Amazon.com: Rockford Fosgate P300-10 Punch Powered Loaded 10-Inch Subwoofer Enclosure: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Rockford Fosgate P300-10 Punch Powered Loaded 10-Inch Subwoofer Enclosure: Car Electronics

^That actually looks pretty good, I've always loved the Old School Fosgate stuff, but I've heard their new stuff is not bad.

I bartered for almost all of my equipment so are you talking $800 retail or what I actually paid?

When I got my G I was all set to transfer the three HD150's and the HD75 that were in my Cobra over to the G but ran across a guy who needed some work done and I traded him for two T400-2 amps and a single T500-1bd for the sub. Compared to the older series HD amps, the newer ones run cooler have better transient response and seem to hit harder. Unfortunately, they are more unforgiving to a marginal electrical system so be prepared to upgrade the main power wiring if you go this route.
