question about nav and backup cam
Hello,
I just bought my 09 G37S, It didnt come equipped with the navigation and the back up camera. Is it possible to get these two things installed and not make it look like it was after market installation?
thank you

If that was something you were looking for specifically in the car, I would have probably searched for a car that already had them instead of buying one that didn't. If you have found a "deal" on a car that didn't have them and spent the money to add them, you'll have to ask your self was that worth it?
It'll cost roughly $600 to have a reputable mechanic install it. They'll have to rewire the camera to the head unit which in the infiniti's I've heard are a real pain. Also wiring it to the reverse mechanism when engaged by the transmission. You'll need to get a camera (which can range from $180-200) and a module for it. If you wanted it and had a real need, it can be done.
The navigation is NOT worth it. Just to renew the maps the dealership wants $280 for it (I have an '08 and recently asked how much it would cost to update it), leave alone the system itself. I can buy 3 Tom Tom's with lifetime maps and traffic for almost that amount. As for the camera I really can't say, but I think you would need the camera, the lip it sits in and the interface with the screen. I am not sure if you have to have the navigation system to be able to see the camera.

I agree with ^. Backup cam might be worth it but the navigation is a piece of crap. I always end up using my iphone's nav since the G37's nav always takes me INTO traffic and the worst possible routes, not matter what the settings are set to.
The stock back up cam also needs the steering sensor to project the vehicle's path onto the rear view video. I don't think the harness is universal either so new wiring will have to be incorporated.
Not saying its worth it but I use mine often when I actually drive the car. It just took me a while to figure it out. It is not as user friendly as the nav on my phone or the nav with my Garmin units but it does work well. With XM traffic and weather I love mine. I am glad I have it but I would not get it after the fact.
Oh and I didn't like it enough to get it in my Z.
