Navi - 2 questions

I have 09 G37S Coupe with NAvi/Premium package.

1) When using the Navi - can I store a location by what I want to call it - Example - "Johns house" or do I have to stick with the way the system stores a location - by address. ??

2) Can I turn off the "lock" that does not allow for NAvi input while underway? My wife can input addresses etc - while I'm the one driving... ?

Thanks in advance.

1. You can certainly store a location by any name you choose. Just check your manual for further details.

2. You many not turn off the lock that prevents inputs while driving. This is a safety feature for your own good. Whereas it may be a good idea for your wife to do this, there would no way to prevent you yourself from doing it, thereby causing an eyes off the road accident that could end both your lives.

1) Yes

2) Learn to use the voice activation. You can input things in voice that are not allowed while driving. This is a great tool once you figure it out and practice using it. There are always by-passes but they are definately frowned upon due to safety issues.

Thanks for the input folks. I did look through the manual and will again search for the info.
I'd still like to know how to turn off the lock on the NAvi so I can make changes while in motion though.
I have a Garmin Zumo 550 that I use on my streetbike (and in the car when in the car mount) and its an absolute breeze to use in comparison to the Navi on the G. I can even change destinations on the Zumo while on the fly.... Haven't crashed - blown up - or destroyed my bike yet....

Garmin is a single use device. Collateral damage for a car crash vs a street bike is very different. Most in dash nav devices have some type of restrictions while the car is in motion for safety and product liability reasons.

Actually - my Garmin 550 Zumo is a media player, XM satellite receiver, bluetooth enabled, and I can receive an make phone calls on the fly through it. Its also a photo album if I want it to be. So - not really single use - if thats what you mean?

I understand the safety issues - but a car crash has to be less heinous than a bike crash - not much steel protecting a rider in a bike crash.

Not trying to be argumentative - but I personally find it asinine that I have to stop my car to change GPS requests..... If anyone happens to know how to unlock the NAvi so I can adjust "on the fly" - please pm me - I don't want and didn't intend to make this a thread about safety.

Thank you.

It's still single use. You didn't buy the device because it's a great photo album. You bought the device as a gps device.

While a bike crash has more dire consequences for the driver a car crash can cause more collateral damage. Anyway no more to say on this.

You can do a web search for what you are looking for.
