Alarm going off by itself?!

Hey guys,

So i got my 2011 coupe a few weeks ago, and the car has been awesome so far. The only problem i seem to be having is that the alarm will go off RANDOMLY. Horn starts going, headlights flashing, etc...like when you press the panic button on the key fob. Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone know the cause of this and how it can be fixed? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It should still be under warranty document the next time this happens and take it into the dealer. Also check the fuses for a leech in the system that might be draining power. I had an X5 that was draining one of the batteries and the alarm would always go off.

Did your car come with an impact sensor? If the sensor is set too high, you could get false alarms.

Are your pants too tight? I have had that happen when I sit in the house, and other keys hit the panic button.

Keep the keys out of your pocket and see if it does it. If not than you are most likely pressing the panic button without knowing it.

Ok I just figured it out from another thread in here. Apparently my car has an impact sensor under the passenger dashboard...I didn't know this! Well that sensor was set to 10 so the alarm would go off with any sort of vibration. I just set it to 7 now so I hope the problem will be solved now!

i was just as surprised to see it at 10. I bought the car used, so maybe the previous owner changed it? I don't know...but the problem has been fixed

If it's attached (with a tie wrap) to the metal part of the body, as it should, under the dash, then 7 is a good starting point.
Garbage trucks on the street 30ft away set mine off at 7!! Otherwise its good to go.

You should edit it to say "I figured it out from THIS thread thanks to Modme's help!"
