I have searched around and found several posts about aftermarket setups for GPS on the g37 sedan.

However, I havent really seen much on factory GPS setups.

Anyone know what parts I would need to make it work (including bluetooth) if I was to get salvaged parts from a junkyard and any idea on a DIY? Any help is welcome!

Oh mine is the 2009 Journey Sedan w/o GPS...

 

It is not a simple DIY. It requires skill, technical expertise, and an lot of money to do. So far as I know Modme is the only member who has done it. He has a thread about it.

 

There is no DIY guide for this, but you could try and figure it out with the help of the FSM (field service manuals) and comparing non-nav to nav diagrams. I believe the combination of that, experience with wiring/modding, and perseverance is how ModMe figured it out.

If you do happen to try this, I nominate you to document it for a DIY

It would likely be a lot easier to just use 3rd party solutions.

But I must admit that my car actually came with navi. My G37s is 2008 so it came with the older style navigation. What I did was upgrade the 2008 one to the 2010 version. The process involved was very similar to installing converting non-nav to stock navi.

To the OP, it's definitely doable. I'd watch out for navi + screen units on ebay. They are becoming dirt cheap. I'd try to get units with pigtails attached. From there, it's just a matter of matching up the wires according to the factory service manual. All the components will mechanically mount seamlessly without modification.

Here is a list of parts you need from top of my head:
-a/v radio/gps/bluetooth unit. It's all in one.
-touch screen
-gps antenna
-GPS buttons/bezel around the screen
-radio faceplate

and if you want the backup camera function:
-Camera control unit
-Camera

 

Modme, just curious--let's say my HD dies or something with the unit freaks out. As a navi owner, would swapping a bad unit with another one of the same specs be possible without dealer intervention?

I just wonder if there is anything that mates any one unit with the Ecu or anything else to any given car.

 

Good question - I'd like to know the answer to this as I'm trying to add a nav to my non-nav 09' Sedan.

I'd also like to add the blutooth capability and possibly even the rear backup cam capability if possible. Any insight on these seemingly impossible tasks would be greatly appreciated.

 

It would be a simple swap. But of course your store info and music would be all gone. If you had updated maps, you would need the dealership to reupdate the maps.

 

Before I get started on this process-
Does anyone know if altering the screen and systems to put in Nav; if it would void the factory warranty.

If yes, would it void the warranty just on the parts that I change (some wiring, screen, steering wheel column for bluetooth, Etc.) or would it void the entire warranty for things such as engine and transmission...

Anyone know definitively and if so, where I can see it in writing for piece of mind?

I am looking at ordering parts as we speak.

 

Modme, thanks for confirming that. Makes me feel a bit better that I have other options besides dealer-butt-reaming.

 

If you cut into any electrical wires you can probably kiss your warranty on anything electrical goodbye if you have issues and they know you did the modification. But then it shouldn't be noticeable unless they look for it since you're using all OEM parts. Or maybe your dealer will still cover things. Other unrelated systems are not affected like the mechanical parts of your engine, transmission, exhaust, suspension, etc.
