CarPC Install - Dual Screen

Hi All,

After around 6 months of dealing with 2 different car audio installers I have finally come to home stretch of my Car Audio / CarPC install. The first installer did a less than stellar job and can't mention anything due to an ongoing legal issue. The second installer ripped everything out and redid everything from scratch. The final install was done by Matt Roberts and was absolutely amazing.

I have to admit after using computers for 24 years this CarPC install has to have been the most difficult thing I've ever done and is definitely not for the faint of heart. I think it would have been much easier if I had just stuck with one monitor but once I took the plunge I had to go all the way.

Here are all the components involved:

Morel Elate 9" 3 Way Set
Morel Ultimo SC 10" subs
Morel Tempo 6x9 Coax's
2 Genesis Profile Ultra 4 amps
1 Genesis Profile Sub Ultra
1 Zapco DC Amp
1 Audison BitOne.1 (Custom Modded by Matt Roberts for cleaner/better sound)
Audison DRC **** relocated next to shifter for ease of access, this is why the **** is gone from the DRC.
1 ScanDO 800 (VGA - RGB Factory Screen conversion) Big thanks to ModMe for all my irritating questions on this
1 CarPC built by me (I can post specs if somebody wants them)
1 SpaceNavigator (Glowing round thing in the console)
1 Touch Screen Overlay for the factory monitor (No nav in my car)
1 7" WideScreen touch screen Liliput 669gl monitor
2 ODB-2 Y Splitters
1 UpRev USB Cable
1 OBDLink Cable
1 AFS Switch from Infiniti (to switch between factory / CarPC video and fit in the blank between the heated seat switches)

Anyway on to the good stuff. Here are the pictures of the finished product:

Thanks

Building the CarPC and such wasn't the hard part, the install was. I didn't touch that mess with a 10 foot pole. When it comes to soldering / messing with wires I let the people who know what they are doing do that stuff

The DIY for the factory screen integration came from ModMe's "Best Gauges" thread if you are interested in that.

I believe the installer Matt Roberts is going to be posting a build log of this sometime in the future on the diyma forums.

Thanks a lot guys. It was literally 6 months where I was without my car through the life of this install. It's been a lot of time spent without my car but it was well worth the wait. It sounds amazing.

The current iteration of the install took 2.5 months to complete and the entire trunk was rebuilt from the ground up. The finished product doesn't look much different from the stock trunk but there was a HUGE amount of work that went into this.

Oh, you tempt me now with a dual monitor setup. This is real clean, i love it. I'll be doing mine soon. Im working on a semi plug-and-play setup. All i'll have to do when i'm ready to finish the install is cut some wires, crimp on some molex connectors and go. Til then im trying to find a suitable case. I have 2 car PC's to choose from at the moment.

How much did you get that scando for?

FML! That's what that cup holder thing is for!!!??? That's the only place i haven't tried to put it.

The cup holder was actually fabricated into the center console by the installer from the "3rd" spare cup holder that fits in the arm rest. The previous installer said he couldn't keep a cup holder for me .

The monitor thing is a serious pain in the ***. My first ScanDO 800 worked great EXCEPT for the RGB output which I couldn't test until I got it in the car. That was a waste of a week or so .

The hard part is trying to get it to look half way decent in windows since I don't know the monitors native resolution. I can't set it to something that I know will look good. I'm still in the process of trying different resolutions but currently it's set to 480p (720x480) which looks the best out of the bunch but ends up hacking off a bit of the left side of the screen.

I'm probably going to have to make another "RGB" cable that is shielded better than the current one since it seems to be picking up quite a bit of interference. I'm currently using just a regular old serial cable that has little to no shielding.

I got lucky and got the ScanDo for 50$ on Ebay.

Are you using Powerstrip to try to get the correct resolutions?
